  • Publication number: 20040143226
Abstract: The blood collection set includes an IV needle assembly, a length of flexible plastic tubing extending from the IV needle assembly and a non-patient needle assembly. The non-patient needle assembly is formed with a venting plug that permits an outflow of air, while blocking an outflow of blood or other fluids. Thus, the venting mechanism enables air that had existed in interior portions of the blood collection set to be vented, and avoids the need to employ a discard tube.

  • Patent number: 6358476
Abstract: A blood collection assembly designed for one-time use includes a microcollection tube and an adapter for the tube which is sized to fit into the tube slot of an automated analytical instrument. The adapter includes structure which forms a tight and permanent interference fit with the microtube so that the tube, once inserted into the adapter, cannot be removed by hand, and the assembly, after sampling and analysis, must be discarded in one piece.

  • Patent number: 6149666
Abstract: A tourniquet providing for generation of an alarm signal upon passage of a predetermined time after the tourniquet is placed on the patient's limb. The tourniquet includes an elongate flexible body having a pair of spaced-apart connection locations for attachment to secure the body in circumscribing relationship about the limb. A signal alarm is placed in transmission continuity with the connection locations for establishing a complete transmission circuit upon attachment of the connection locations. The signal alarm is placed in a signal generating condition upon completion of the transmission circuit.
