  • Patent number: 7197030
Abstract: A network of processing devices is arranged to communicate by packets having an addressing header and a data portion. Within the network, audio telephony is implemented. A signaling packet is sent from a source processing device to a central location identifying a destination processing device. A signaling packet is sent from the central processing location to the destination processing device identifying the source processing device. A packet is supplied from the central location to the sourcing processing device identifying an address for the destination processing device, whereafter packets containing digitized audio signals are transmitted over said network directly between the source processing device and the destination processing device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 17, 2001
Date of Patent: March 27, 2007
Assignee: British Telecommunications public limited company
    Inventor: Stewart R Witchalls
  • Patent number: 6671263
Abstract: A multimedia telecommunications call centre receives incoming calls via a gateway, which transmits the call request to a multipoint controller. The multipoint controller controls call routing to a desired terminal on a network, with the physical call datastream being carried directly across the network without mediation by the multipoint controller, thereby obviating bottlenecks at the controller and providing scalability.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 25, 1998
Date of Patent: December 30, 2003
Assignee: British Telecommunications public limited company
Inventors: John M. M Potter, Russell J Lang, Stewart R Witchalls
