  • Patent number: 9887769
Abstract: The device includes a first detector configured to detect, from received signal power, first fault parameters related to an occurrence of a first fault on this optical fiber. The device further includes a database configured to store the first fault parameters and a second detector configured to detect from the received signal power second fault parameters related to a restoration of a second fault on the optical fiber. The device further includes a comparator configured to compare the second fault parameters with the stored fault parameters and to decide that the fault is resolved if the first fault parameters most closely match the second fault parameters.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 27, 2014
Date of Patent: February 6, 2018
    Assignee: Alcatel Lucent
    Inventors: Nicolas Dupuis, Stijn Meersman

  • Patent number: 9287989
Abstract: Proposed is an optical data transmission device for an optical access network that comprises a laser transmission unit, which generates an optical transmission signal, and a driving unit, which controls the laser transmission unit for modulating the transmission signal. The device comprises an optical reception unit that converts the received optical signal into an electrical measurement signal. For this, the reception unit contains a photo-diode and an electrical amplifier. The optical reception unit is separate from the laser transmission unit. A control unit controls the laser transmission unit, such that the optical transmission signal is modulated in dependence on a measurement signal. The control unit measures multiple electrical measurement signals during a measurement interval and determines an averaged received electrical measurement signal.

  • Publication number: 20150138539
Abstract: Proposed is a method of estimating a reflection profile of an optical channel. The method comprises different steps. A measured reflection profile of the optical channel is provided. One or more reflection peaks are estimated within the measured reflection profile. A residual reflection profile is determined, by removing the estimated reflection peaks from the measured reflection profile. Furthermore, a modified residual reflection profile is determined, by modifying one or more estimated crosstalk frequency components within the residual reflection profile. Finally, the estimated reflection profile is determined, by superposing the estimated reflection peaks and the modified residual reflection profile.

  • Publication number: 20140099099
Abstract: A fault detection method includes collecting operational parameters of the optical network, collecting information about the structure of the optical network, providing diagnosis outputs by a diagnosis engine analyzing the structure information and the operational parameters, and deriving optical network faults from the diagnosis outputs. The collected operational parameters and the collected structure information may be stored in a database. The operational parameters are related to equipment, Quality-of-Service and/or architecture of the optical network. The optical network faults derived from the diagnosis outputs may concern equipment issues, interoperability problems and/or physical defects. The diagnosis engine generates the diagnosis outputs by using decision trees, Bayesian network techniques and/or multivariate classification techniques.
