  • Patent number: 7932873
Abstract: An apparatus includes a light source configured to provide a path of light and a spatial light modulator located in the path of light and configured to modulate the light source. Relay optics are configured to receive the modulated light from the spatial light modulator and to project a computer generated image to a nominal image plane. The light source is configured to illuminate the spatial light modulator with collimated light.

  • Publication number: 20080211836
Abstract: A system includes a driving apparatus configured to operate on an optically addressed spatial light modulator (OASLM) including a modulation layer notionally divided into a plurality of separately addressable segments. A pulse generator is configured to provide one or more voltage patterns and an optical pattern generator configured to provide one or more optical patterns of light. For each segment of the OASLM, the driving apparatus is further configured to write, over a predetermined number of write operations, a predetermined amount of light associated with the one or more optical patterns. The driving apparatus is configured to apply a reset pulse associated with the one or more voltage patterns, such that a resulting net charge on the modulation layer is zero.

  • Patent number: 7265893
Abstract: A method of controlling the switching of an optically addressable spatial light modulator (OASLM), to a first surface of which a write light signal is applied and to a second surface of which a read light signal is applied. The method comprises applying a bipolar switching waveform to control electrodes of the (OASLM) during each write cycle such that the leading pulse of the waveform applies a voltage across the (OASLM) which is in the photosensitive direction and the trailing pulse applies a voltage which is not in the photosensitive direction.
