  • Patent number: 8483952
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for training a person in route management are based on a personal computer. The apparatus may be used for example to train a bus driver to follow a new or changed route. A data store stores data streams corresponding to different kinds of information of the route, including video of the route, audio data, sound data, GPS and time data, and vehicle engine management data. A VDU and loudspeaker are used as output devices to present the plurality of data streams to a user such that they are co-related to the route to be followed. Data streams corresponding to different route information are not combined in the data store, but comprise cross-referable data. The computer is programmed to present the first data stream and the further data stream in a co-related manner via the output devices and in dependence upon the cross-referable data.

  • Patent number: 8360199
Abstract: An integrated mass air flow sensor/broadband silencer assembly comprises a molded body having a plurality of walls formed therein. The molded body is over-wrapped with a layer of acoustic foam that, together with the plurality of walls, define a plurality of chambers within an interior volume of the assembly. A mass air flow sensor can be inserted into one of the chambers. The chambers are sized and spaced to provide a uniform velocity, low turbulence air flow to the sensor, and a minimally-restricted air flow to an internal combustion engine located downstream of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 8048179
Abstract: An air cleaner for a motor vehicle includes a housing having an air inlet opening, an air outlet opening, a secondary air inlet opening and at least one peripheral wall defining a chamber therein. An air filter element is provided and received into the chamber and positioned to separate the air inlet opening from the air outlet opening. A vacuum actuated valve is provided in the secondary air inlet opening of the housing and is in communication with a secondary air portion of a dirty face of the filter element. The valve configured and adapted to automatically change from a closed to an open state when a vacuum in the housing increases to a predetermined vacuum value and then to close when the vacuum decreases below the predetermined value, thereby permitting the vehicle engine to continue to operate even though airflow in the primary air intake may be obstructed.

  • Publication number: 20110139110
Abstract: An air pillow system for an air intake tract includes a plurality of inwardly extending ribs arranged in a distally spaced arrangement and defining a plurality of peripherally closed air pillow pockets. Each pocket has an open end opening towards an airflow stream to be guided. Each rib is configured with an inwardly extending length selected to correlate with a boundary of a low-loss airflow glide path. The air pillows operate to guide the airflow stream along the low-loss airflow glide path with reduced airflow stream turbulence and airflow pressure loss.

  • Patent number: 7503589
Abstract: A connector assembly includes first and second hoses, a tubular connector, and a clamp. The tubular connector includes first and second radial projections that are spaced apart along an axial direction of the tubular connector. The tubular connector extends into the first hose, and the first radial projection of the tubular connector engages with the inner surface of the first hose. The tubular connector also extends into the second hose, and the second radial projection of the tubular connector engages with the inner surface of the second hose. The first hose extends into the second hose so that the first and second hoses axially overlap in an area between the first and second radial projections of the tubular connector. The clamp engages the outer surface of the second hose in the axially overlapping area of the first and second hoses to clamp the first and second hoses to the tubular connector.

  • Patent number: 7485027
Abstract: A method for generating a high-velocity cutting jet comprises forming a high velocity jet of a liquid such as water, forming a suspension of an abrasive such as garnet in a carrier gas containing a condensable vapour such as superheated steam, and entraining the abrasive suspension into the liquid jet so that the vapour condenses, producing a cutting jet of a liquid/abrasive mixture. A cutting head of apparatus for generating the cutting jet has a chamber into which the abrasive suspension is passed. The liquid jet traverses this chamber, entraining the suspension, and passes into a tapering transition region and a bore of a nozzle. Kinetic energy is transferred from the liquid jet to the abrasive as they pass trough the chamber and the nozzle. Condensation of the vapour ensures that the cutting jet leaves the nozzle at close to ambient pressure, reducing the diameter of the cutting jet compared to conventional abrasive-in-air systems, so as to increase the energy density of the abrasive.
