    Abstract: The present invention relates to a photoinitiator composition that can be used to initiate polymerization upon exposure to radiation. The said composition includes both a composition which yields cations upon exposure to actinic radiation, such as an iodonium borate initiator and a stabilizing amino agent. The amino agent is a secondary or tertiary amine having the general formula (VIII), a sterically arranged cyclic amine having the general formula (IX), or an amine consisting of groups that have the general formulas (VIII) and (IX) and that are interconnected. ##STR1## The compositions are particularly useful when used in conjunction with polyorganosiloxane monomers and when exposed to ultraviolet radiation.

    Abstract: A meshed for producing an abrasion-resistant, ultraviolet radiation cured coating on a surface of a polymeric substrate is disclosed, as well as the article produced from the method. The uncured coating material which is substantially free of non-reactive volatile components is (i) applied to the substrate (ii) heated along with the substrate to a temperature sufficient to drive a portion of the coating material into a region beneath the surface of the substrate, (iii) and cured onto the substrate by exposing the coating material under anaerobic conditions to sufficient ultraviolet radiation to cure the coating material. Heating of the solvent-free coating prior to ultraviolet radiation cure and while in contact with the substrate results in improved adhesion of the coating to the substrate.

Organopolysiloxanes of the general formula:RR.sup.1.sub.2 SiO(R.sup.1.sub.2 SiO).sub.x (RR.sup.2 SiO).sub.y SiR.sup.1.sub.2 Rare used as the release modifier, wherein each R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is independently an aryl or alkyl group having from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, each R is independently chosen from the following groups: R.sup.1, R.sup.2, alkenyl having from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, hydrogen, alkoxy (such as methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy, etc.) hydroxy, epoxy, amino, and fluoroalkyl having up to 10 carbon atoms; x and y are each an integer such that the value of (x+y) is sufficient to yield a composition having a viscosity of from at least 1500 cps at room temperature to as high as the viscosity of silicone gums.

    Abstract: A novel radiation curable coating composition for thermoplastic substrates contains a polyfunctional acrylic monomer, a mono-, di- or trifunctional acrylic monomer, a thermoplastic or elastomeric polymer and a photoinitiator. The coatings can be cured to hard, abrasion resistant coatings, yet retain a significant degree of residual unsaturation. The residual unsaturation and the thermoplastic or elastomeric polymer provide excellent adhesion between the coating and topcoats.
