  • Patent number: 10388306
Abstract: A method of digitizing an audio track carried on an elongate recording medium, such as a movie film, includes transporting the recording medium containing the audio track past a reader to enable sequential reading of the audio track. The reading of the audio track generates an analog output signal. The method also includes sensing a rate of transportation of the recording medium, and sampling the analog output signal at a sampling rate determined on the basis of the sensed rate of transportation to digitize the analog output signal. A system for digitizing audio is also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 29, 2018
Date of Patent: August 20, 2019
    Assignee: Blackmagic Design Pty Ltd
Inventors: James Kenneth Little, Lachlan James Karp, Gavin Richard Lucas, Stuart William Arundell Hunt, Thomas Richard Clarke, Clive Nicholas Gunn, David Matthew Snape

  • Patent number: 6909454
Abstract: A method of calibrating the light system in a flying spot scanner or telecine machine using a cathode ray tube light source and a photosensitive detector, wherein at a first level of light transmitted to the photosensitive detector a control signal to the photosensitive detector is adjusted to obtain a predetermined video signal, and the value of the control signal is noted; at a plurality of other levels of light transmitted to the photosensitive detector, the control signal to the photosensitive detector is adjusted to obtain the predetermined video signal, and the values of the respective control signals are noted; and a lookup table is created of calibration values for different levels of light, so that during normal operation of the telecine machine values in the table can be used to obtain calibration information for different levels of light transmitted to the photosensitive detector.

  • Patent number: 6844894
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for the conversion of cinematographic film to corresponding video data, in which the transport mechanism 3a of a telecine machine 2a is operated at a rate higher than the real time frame rate for the film to be converted. The stream of video data from the telecine machine 2a is processed by a video processor 13 and stored in a buffer 15. The video data can be downloaded from the buffer 15 at a data rate corresponding to the real time data rate of the film.

  • Patent number: 6239425
Abstract: A color scanning system is provided for scanning an image, the scanner comprising means for scanning the image with light; means for splitting light transmitted from the image, including both directly transmitted light and light scattered as a result of imperfections in or on the image, into a plurality of spectral components; means for directing the spectral components to respective photoresponsive devices; and means for filtering the split components of the light before reception by the photoresponsive devices; wherein a first band pass filtering system is provided to filter the directly transmitted light and a second band pass filtering system is provided to filter the scattered light, the characteristics of the first and second band pass filtering systems being different and such that the intensities of the direct and scattered light received by each photoresponsive device will be balanced so as to reduce or eliminate the effects of imperfections in or on the image.

  • Patent number: 6239832
Abstract: A telecine system comprises a cathode ray tube 2 with a mixed phosphor 6. The phosphor 6 is composed of phosphor components each having a distinct spectral output. Primary photodetectors 16,20,22 are arranged to detect light from the cathode ray tube 2 which has been modulated by a film 10 and produce primary electrical signals including information about the color content of the modulated light. Secondary photodetectors 26a-26c detect unmodulated light from the cathode ray tube 2 and produce secondary electrical signals including information about the color content of the unmodulated light. The primary signals are divided by the secondary signals in a signal processor 28 to compensate for inhomogenities in the mixed phosphor 6.

  • Patent number: 5982427
Abstract: A process for the adjustment of signals obtained from an image, in which analogue signals representative of the image are pre-emphasized and converted to digital signals. The digital signals are then de-emphasized and simultaneously or subsequently adjusted.
