  • Publication number: 20230182703
Abstract: A method for detecting an erroneous velocity data using a controller in communication with a velocity sensor onboard a vehicle includes receiving a time-series velocity data from the velocity sensor, calculating a time-series acceleration data using the time-series velocity data, calculating a time-series jerk data using the time-series acceleration data, calculating a saturated (numerically bounded) jerk data using the time-series jerk data, calculating an estimated acceleration data using the saturated jerk data, calculating a difference between the estimated acceleration data and the time-series acceleration data, and determining whether the difference is greater than a threshold value. The erroneous velocity data is detected in response to the difference being greater than the threshold value.

  • Patent number: 10302025
Abstract: Systems, apparatus, and methods are disclosed that include an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders operable by a valve actuation mechanism that opens and closes the intake and exhaust valves during nominal engine operations. In response to engine operations indicating a cylinder deactivation condition, one or more the cylinders is selected for deactivation and operated by combusting an amount of fuel that is effective to limit air flow through the deactivated cylinder(s) so that the air flow and combusted fuel amount are less than during nominal cylinder operations.

  • Patent number: 9658077
Abstract: An apparatus remotely provides refueling management instructions for a vehicle. One or more initial vehicle parameters are determined, including an initial quantity of fuel, a plurality of route parameters including a starting point, an ending point and an estimated average fuel efficiency of the vehicle, and a plurality of refueling parameters including one or more refueling locations. The sufficiency of an initial quantity of fuel is evaluated in relation to the estimated average fuel efficiency and a distance to be traveled by the vehicle equal to a difference between the ending point and the starting point. One or more current vehicle parameters are interpreted at a first predetermined time, a refueling agenda is created, and an associated predetermined refueling amount at each of the identified one or more refueling locations is determined.

  • Patent number: 9194309
Abstract: A system and method for identifying and analyzing a route using an inexpensive GPS system is provided. The system and method provides a location for storing GPS and vehicle operating data for at least one route, requiring a plurality of runs over the at least one route. Once a predetermined minimum number of runs have been reached, the system and method define a route segment, interpolate additional data points using the GPS and vehicle operating data, synchronize the data over the plurality of runs, and analyze the data. The analyzed data is then provided to a module capable of controlling the operation of an internal combustion engine. The analyzed data is forward-looking in that it permits anticipation of vehicle operation, and more particularly, engine and transmission operation.

  • Patent number: 8886422
Abstract: This disclosure provides a system and method for determining cylinder deactivation in a vehicle engine to optimize fuel consumption while providing the desired or demanded power. In one aspect, data indicative of terrain variation is utilized in determining a vehicle target operating state. An optimal active cylinder distribution and corresponding fueling is determined from a recommendation from a supervisory agent monitoring the operating state of the vehicle of a subset of the total number of cylinders, and a determination as to which number of cylinders provides the optimal fuel consumption. Once the optimal cylinder number is determined, a transmission gear shift recommendation is provided in view of the determined active cylinder distribution and target operating state.

  • Publication number: 20040181300
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and computer program products combine recursive least squares system identification operations and generalized predictive control operations to yield recursive generalized predictive control (RGPC) operations that can simultaneously achieve robust performance and robust stability characteristics. These RGPC operations can be applied in real-time without prior system (plant) information for control design because the operations for system identification are performed continuously. Moreover, the RGPC operations can be applied in the presence of changing operating environments because the control design is updated adaptively.
