  • Patent number: 5709109
Abstract: A drum-type clothes washing machine includes an outer tub, and an inner tub rotatable relative to the outer tub about a horizontal axis of rotation. The inner tub is tapered, with a larger diameter disposed at one end thereof. A balancer having an inner chamber is disposed on the inner tub at the smaller diameter end. A liquid-absorbing member, such as a sponge, is disposed within the chamber and extends annularly about the axis of rotation. A liquid is contained in the chamber and is disposed at a lower end thereof when the inner tub is at rest. The balancer and sponge rotate together with the inner tub such that a lower portion of the sponge, which is immersed in the liquid, passes through the liquid to cause the liquid to be uniformly distributed throughout the sponge. At low speed rotation (washing mode) the sponge is saturated with liquid to function as a counterbalancing weight. At high speed rotation (spin-drying mode), liquid can exit the sponge under the action of centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 5675996
Abstract: A clothes washing machine includes a water container, a washing basket rotatably mounted in the water container, and an agitator oscillatable at a bottom of the washing basket. The agitator includes a pulsator plate oscillatable about an axis, and a pulsator rod composed of telescoping members mounted at a center of the pulsator plate for upward extension and downward retraction along the axis during the oscillation of the pulsator plate. The pulsator rod is driven by an inertia body mounted on the pulsator plate such that rotation of the pulsator plate relative to the inertia body in one direction causes the pulsator rod to be retracted downwardly. A spring extends the pulsator rod upwardly during rotation of the pulsator plate in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 5185766
Abstract: There is provided a system for decoding a digital code and in particular a biphase-coded data, by detecting edges of the biphase-coded data and the time intervals between edge conditions. A system for decoding the biphase-code data includes a microcomputer 1 to control the system, a remote receiver module (RRM) 2 for logicizing code data received in infrared rays, filtering the waveform, and applying the output to the microcomputer 1; a first remote transmitter (RTTP) 5 for generating Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) code; a second remote transmitter (RTTB) 7 for generating biphase-code according to the pressing of a key; a tuner 9, display unit 11, and servo 13 operated under the control of the microcomputer 1; and a key matrix 15 for entering key data to the microcomputer 1.
