A current distance to empty (DTE) is calculated based on a current state of charge (SOC) of a battery and the current SOC of the battery is compared with a reference SOC. The current DUC is compared with the current DTE when the current SOC is greater than the reference SOC. Thus, whether a high speed condition or a high load condition is satisfied is determined when the current DUC is greater than the current DTE.
