Patent number: 10241904Abstract: The factorization of test components when performing component-level regression testing in iterative builds of a computing system that consists of many working components. Performance metrics for test components are maintained across multiple builds of the computing program. To perform factorization, multiple factorings of a test component are identified and evaluated until a suitable improvement in the maintained performance metric for each corresponding test component is achieved (e.g., via simulation). This may be performed, across multiple of the test components. This process may be iterated through such that the set of test components being factored and evaluated in a subsequent iteration may in fact be a test component created by factorization in a prior iteration. The net result is that the factorization achieves improvement in performance metrics of the test components.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2017Date of Patent: March 26, 2019Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Suresh Thummalapenta, Jacek Andrzej Czerwonka, Shuvendu K. Lahiri, Nikolaj Skallerud Bjorner, August Shi

Patent number: 9038026Abstract: A computer system, method and computer program product for automatically converting, through automating-test-automation software, a manual test case representation (in a natural language), for testing a target software, into a machine-readable test case representation. In preferred embodiments, the machine-readable test case is in the form of a keyword-based test case that is made from action-target-data tuples. The automation-test-software uses a methodical process of trial-and-error to resolve ambiguities that are generally present (and generally resolvable by humans) in the manual test case representation.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2011Date of Patent: May 19, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Satish Chandra, Achin K. Das, Srinivas Mangipudi, Debdoot Mukherjee, Saurabh Sinha, Suresh Thummalapenta

Publication number: 20100058475Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention combine static analysis, source code instrumentation and feedback-guided fuzz testing to automatically detect resource exhaustion denial of service attacks in software and generate inputs of coma for vulnerable code segments. The static analysis of the code highlights portions that are potentially vulnerable, such as loops and recursions whose exit conditions are dependent on user input. The code segments are dynamically instrumented to provide a feedback value at the end of each execution. Evolutionary techniques are then employed to search among the possible inputs to find inputs that maximize the feedback score.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2009Publication date: March 4, 2010Applicant: NEC Laboratories America, Inc.Inventors: Suresh Thummalapenta, Guofei Jiang, Sriram Sankaranarayanan, Franjo Ivancic
