  • Patent number: 4617036
Abstract: A cryogenic distillative separation of air to recover nitrogen in large quantities and at relatively high pressure wherein a portion of the nitrogen reflux for the distillation is achieved by heat exchanging nitrogen gas in a side reboiler against waste oxygen at reduced pressure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 29, 1985
Date of Patent: October 14, 1986
Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Inventors: Shyam R. Suchdeo, Suresh U. Patel, Christopher F. Harris
  • Patent number: 4400188
Abstract: A process is described in which gaseous nitrogen is recovered from air in a cryogenic air separation unit containing a single distillation column wherein the product nitrogen is compressed and a portion of the compressed nitrogen is recycled to the column to provide reboil in the bottom of said column and reflux at the top of said column. A waste crude oxygen stream is expanded to provide refrigeration for the air separation unit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 27, 1981
Date of Patent: August 23, 1983
Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Inventors: Suresh U. Patel, Thomas E. Cormier, Keith B. Wilson
