Publication number: 20240019514Abstract: Thermally isolating cable assemblies, systems using the assemblies, and methods for fabricating the assemblies are discussed. A cable assembly includes a first shielding cable comprising a first solderable material interleaved with a section of a second shielding cable comprising an exterior material that is a second solderable material and an inner material that is superconductive at and below a critical temperature. The cable assembly may be fabricated during the assembly of an apparatus, and, following assembly of the apparatus, a segment of the second shielding cable is etched to expose a portion of the inner material. Following fabrication of the cable assemblies, the apparatus may be installed in a cryogenic environment in which the inner material may be operable as a superconductor and may thermally isolate the cabling assembly distal to the exposed portion to reduce heat load to a superconducting circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2023Publication date: January 18, 2024Inventors: Richard D. Patent number: 9382558Abstract: This invention relates to a new process for making fatty acids directly from a feedstock consisting of phytoplankton in water without the need to a) thermally separate, dewater and dry the phytoplankton, and b) extract the immobilized lipids. Our method is much less expensive than the current practice of making fatty acids from phytoplankton, because we bypass the costly and energy intensive operations associated with a) dewatering and drying the biomass, and b) extracting the immobilized lipids. As such, this invention greatly enhances the economic viability of making biofuels and bioproducts from phytoplankton.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2011Date of Patent: July 5, 2016Assignee: UNITEL TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Surjit Singh Randhava, Sarabjit Singh Randhava, Richard Kao, Todd Harvey, Ajaib Singh Randhava, Gregory Dicosola

Patent number: 6294068Abstract: A process and apparatus are described for producing higher hydrocarbons from lower hydrocarbons, e.g. by gas phase electrocatalytic polymerization of methane. This is done using an electrolysis cell having an anode chamber on one side of a solid electrolyte and a cathode chamber on the other side of the solid electrolyte. According to this process, methane-containing gas is passed through the anode chamber to contact a catalytic anode which is connected to one side of the solid electrolyte, this solid electrolyte comprising a solid proton conducting membrane. An inert gas or oxygen is passed through the cathode chamber to contact a catalytic cathode which is connected to the other side of the proton conducting membrane. The membrane is designed so that H+ is capable of passing through the membrane from the anode chamber to the cathode chamber.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2000Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Natural Resources CanadaInventors: Slobodan Petrovic, John C.
