    Abstract: A method for producing a nonwoven web material having cross-machine direction extensibility in which a nonwoven web is conveyed through a machine which elongates the nonwoven web in a cross-machine direction (CD). The elongated nonwoven web is then necked, forming a cross-machine direction extensible nonwoven web material. The CD extensible nonwoven web material is highly stretchable and is suitable for use in personal care articles, such as diapers, incontinence garments, and feminine care products, as well as other articles, such as wipes, face masks, tissues, bandages and wound dressings.

    Abstract: A method of forming fibers into a web includes the steps of co-extruding a first elastomeric component and a second thermoplastic component; directing the first and second components through a fiber spin pack to form a plurality of continuous molten fiber spinlines, where the first elastomeric component is present in an amount greater than about 70 percent by weight of the molten fibers and the second thermoplastic component is present in an amount of between about 10 and 30 percent by weight of the molten fibers; attenuating the spinlines and routing the plurality of molten fibers through a quench chamber to form a plurality of cooled fibers; routing the plurality of cooled fibers through a fiber draw unit, whereby the fibers are pulled downward; allowing the pulled fibers to be deposited onto a forming surface thereby forming a web wherein the fibers are relaxed; stabilizing the web; and bonding the web to produce a web demonstrating greater than about 25 percent machine direction stretch recovery.

    Abstract: A breathable, elastic, film laminate including layers of an inherently breathable, elastic polymer film alternately stacked with layers of a filled plastic polymer. The laminate may be made by grafting a thermoplastic polymer to an elastomer to form an inherently breathable elastic polymer, extruding, the elastic polymer through a die, extruding the filled plastic polymer through a die, stacking the extruded elastic polymer with the extruded plastic polymer while the polymers are in a melt-extrudable state to create a multilayer film laminate, and stretching the laminate.

    Abstract: A method of forming bicomponent fibers into a web is disclosed. The method includes the steps of co-extruding a first component and a second component. The first component has a recovery percentage R1 and the second component has a recovery percentage R2, wherein R1 is higher than R2 The first and second components are directed through a spin pack to form a plurality of continuous, molten fibers. The plurality of molten fibers is then routed through a quenching chamber to form a plurality of continuous cooled fibers. The plurality of continuous cooled fibers is then routed through a drawing unit to form a plurality of continuous, solid linear fibers. The linear fibers are then deposited onto a moving support, such as a forming wire, to form an accumulation of fibers. The accumulation of fibers are stabilized and bonded to form a web. The web is then stretched by at least 50 percent in at least one direction before being allowed to relax.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for creping a nonwoven web using a hot melt adhesive as the creping adhesive. As a second aspect of the present invention, an internal adhesive is added to the polymers used to produce the nonwoven web during the nonwoven web forming process and this internal adhesive adheres the nonwoven web to the creping roll. Using the processes of the present invention, more energy efficient methods are provided for creping nonwoven webs. The creped nonwoven webs of the present invention are useful in a wide variety of application including as wipes, liners, transfer or surge layers, outercovers, other fluid handling materials and looped attachment materials for hook and loop fasteners.

The composite elastic material laminate should have a hysteresis at least 15 percent better than a similar laminate made without the narrow polydispersity number elastomer but with the processing aid.

    Abstract: There is disclosed fibers and fabrics formed from a polymer which is a "hand enhancing" polymer. The "hand enhancing" polymer is a copolymer of polypropylene which contains ethylene, 1-butene, or 1-hexene or a terpolymer of propylene, ethylene and butene. If the polymer is an ethylene copolymer, the copolymer may be random or random and block and the ethylene must be present in an amount between greater than 5 and 7.5 weight percent of the copolymer. If the copolymer contains 1-butene, it must be present in an amount between 1 and 15.4 weight percent of the copolymer. If the copolymer contains 1-hexene, it must be present in an amount between 2 and 5 weight percent of the copolymer. If the polymer is a terpolymer of propylene, ethylene and butylene, the polypropylene is present in an amount between 90 and 98 weight percent, the ethylene is present in an amount between 1 and 6 weight percent and the butylene is present in an amount between 1 and 6 weight percent.
