  • Patent number: 7792754
Abstract: A financial document item processing system processes checks transported from an upstream end of a check transport path to a downstream end of the check transport path. Endorsement data is transmitted to an RFID tag of a check transported along the check transport path from the upstream end to the downstream end. Alternatively, encoded data is transmitted to an RFID tag of a check transported along the check transport path from the upstream end to the downstream end. In some financial document item processing applications, both endorsement data and encoded data are transmitted to an RFID tag of a check transported along the check transport path from the upstream end to the downstream end.

  • Patent number: 7514646
Abstract: Techniques for use of wireless labels to provide information relating to documents in a document processing operation are described. A plurality of document processing trays each have affixed a label for receiving and displaying messages which are received wirelessly from a central communication interface The messages provide information relating to documents to be placed within or contained within the trays. When a group of documents undergoes initial processing, the group of documents is sorted into a plurality of sorting locations. Each of the sorting locations has an associated tray and label and the documents within the sorting location are placed within the tray. Messages relating to the documents within each tray are transmitted and displayed on the label affixed to the tray. The messages provide information such as the large group, such as an entry, and sorting location to which the documents belong and the endpoint of the documents.

  • Patent number: 7490759
Abstract: A process for correcting bank checks which are in transit to destination banks in a check clearing process. Specific patterns of errors in the MICR lines on the checks are sought and, if they are found, a technician is prompted to correct the MICR line. In addition, a display is generated which (1) is convenient for technicians to view for extended periods of time and (2) provides assistance to the technicians in making the corrections.

  • Publication number: 20040118658
Abstract: A multiple-pass item processing system has an image capture workstation for processing checks during a first pass of checks and an encoding and sorting workstation for processing checks during a second pass of checks. Radio frequency identification (RFID) tag data including a unique RFID tag number is extracted from an RFID tag of a check transported along a check transport path of the image capture workstation during the first pass. The unique RFID tag number extracted during the first pass is stored in a memory. RFID tag data including a unique RFID tag number is extracted from an RFID tag of a check transported along a check transport path of the encoding and sorting workstation during the second pass. The unique RFID tag number extracted during the second pass is compared with RFID tag number store in the memory to determine if there is a match.

  • Publication number: 20040098340
Abstract: A method of operating a check processing system having a document item transport path and a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag reader disposed along the document transport path comprises the steps of (a) transmitting an interrogating signal from the RFID tag reader towards RFID tagged documents transported along the document transport path, (b) receiving a first signal from an RFID tag of a first document transported along the document transport path when the RFID tag of the first document detects the interrogating signal, (c) receiving a second signal from an RFID tag of a second document transported along the document transport path when the RFID tag of the second document the interrogating signal, and (d) generating a status signal indicative of a piggyback condition associated with the first and second documents when the first and second signals are received within a predetermined time period.

  • Publication number: 20040000987
Abstract: A system comprises a first device for receiving from a payor a request to create a check having a radio frequency identifier (RFID) tag associated therewith. A second device is provided for receiving from a payee a request to validate a check having an RFID tag associated therewith. The system further comprises an RFID repository. A processor is provided for (i) receiving check information from the payor, (ii) updating the RFID repository with check information received from the payor, (iii) receiving scanned check information from the payee, (iv) comparing the scanned check information received from the payee with certain information retrieved from the RFID repository, and (v) determining if the check is valid based upon the comparison of the scanned check information received from the payee with the certain information retrieved from the RFID repository. Preferably, the RFID repository comprises a central RFID repository.
