  • Patent number: 5454978
Abstract: A surface active composition for dispersing an oil in an aqueous media and/or for inhibiting deposition of oil on a surface of a water carrying system is disclosed. Preferably, the water carrying system is at least one system selected from the group consisting of a cooling tower, a cooling tower fill, means for heat exchange, means for industrial processing, and a body of water. A method for inhibiting deposition of an oil on a surface of a water carrying system is also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 28, 1993
Date of Patent: October 3, 1995
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Daniel P. Vanderpool, Susan P. Rey
  • Patent number: 5141675
Abstract: A polyphosphate in combination with an azole such as in alkyl or alkoxy benzotriazole, mercaptobenzothiazole, tolyltriazole, benzotriazole, a substituted benzotriazole and/or 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole, is used to inhibit the corrosion of metallic surfaces, particularly copper surfaces, in contact with an aqueous system. Systems and compositions are also claimed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 15, 1990
Date of Patent: August 25, 1992
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Daniel P. Vanderpool, Susan P. Rey
  • Patent number: 5078879
Abstract: A method for controlling the formation of silica/silicate deposits in aqueous systems by adding an effective amount, preferably at least 0.1 ppm, of 2-phosphonobutane tricarboxylic acid-1,2,4 and, optionally, an anionic polymer, preferably a carboxylic/sulfonic polymer, or salts thereof to the aqueous system being treated. Borate or molybdate ion sources may also be added.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 1990
Date of Patent: January 7, 1992
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Jasbir S. Gill, Susan P. Rey, John H. Wiernik
  • Patent number: 4933090
Abstract: This invention is directed to a method for controlling the formation of silica/silicate deposits in aqueous systems by adding an effective amount, preferably at least 0.1 ppm, of a designated phosphonate and, optionally, a carboxylic/sulfonic polymer or salt thereof to the aqueous system being treated. Borate or molybdate ion sources may also be added.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Jasbir S. Gill, Susan P. Rey, John H. Wiernik
  • Patent number: 4798683
Abstract: A method for inhibiting corrosion in aqueous systems comprising adding to the system being treated an effective amount of a composition comprising a molybdate ion source and a water-soluble component selected from polymaleic acid anhydride, amine adducts of polymaleic anhydride, maleic anhydride copolymers, carboxylic acid/sulfonic acid polymers, salts of the above-described polymers, phosphonates, phosphino carboxylic acids, polyphosphoric acid and esters of polyphosphoric acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1988
Date of Patent: January 17, 1989
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Bennett P. Boffardi, Susan P. Rey
  • Patent number: 4783267
Abstract: A method for stabilizing metal ions in recirculating water systems is disclosed. This method utilizes 2-hydroxyphosphonoacetic acid at a dosage of 0.1-100 ppm to solubilize metal ions thereby reducing deposition and corrosion.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 8, 1988
    Assignee: Calgon Corporation
Inventors: Bennett P. Boffardi, Susan P. Rey
  • Patent number: 4634532
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a process for the control of scale formation and deposition in thermal or reverse osmosis membrane desalination plants, comprising adding to the water 0.1 to 100 ppm of (a) a water soluble orthophosphate and (b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of water soluble polycarboxylates, phosphonates, phosphates, sulfonates and polyamides.
