  • Publication number: 20080044783
Abstract: A candle structure includes a candle body and a plurality of wicks. The candle body is configured with a top and bottom surface, and an outside wall that tapers substantially inward from the top surface to the bottom surface. The plurality of wicks is configured to supply air through the gaps of standing wicks that protrude from the top surface of the candle structure. The plurality of wicks extends above the body and the wicks are aligned longitudinally. The plurality of wicks is arranged radially to taper outward toward the bottom surface of the candle body.

  • Publication number: 20070111149
Abstract: A lamp includes a fuel reservoir, a hollow wick, and an air channel. The fuel reservoir is configured to hold a volume of fuel. The hollow wick is configured to wick the fuel from the fuel reservoir to the atmosphere such that a flame is produced when the wick is ignited. The air channel is configured to supply air from outside of the fuel reservoir to a base of the flame. The air channel extends through the hollow wick and is at least partially graduated so that the flow of air through the air channel is substantially laminar.

  • Patent number: 7189072
Abstract: An apparatus for producing a sustained flame, comprising: an inner wick with a hollow center; an outer wick disposed around the inner wick, wherein the region between the inner wick and the outer wick defines an inter-wick region, and wherein the region around the outer wick defines an outer wick peripheral region; at least one fuel reservoir, for containing a flame-fueling liquid, in communication with at least one of the wicks; a first air container; a first air channel connecting the first air container to the center of the inner wick; and a second air container.

  • Patent number: 6896510
Abstract: An apparatus for producing a sustained flame, comprising: a first reservoir for containing a first flame-fueling liquid; a second reservoir for containing a second flame-fueling liquid; a first wick having a first end disposed within the first reservoir and a second, flame-bearing end generally located above the first end; a second wick disposed substantially adjacent to the first wick, having a first end disposed within the second reservoir and a second, flame-bearing end above the first end; and at least one air channel disposed to supply oxygen to each wick, where a first end of the at least one air channel is generally located near the flame-bearing end of each wick; whereby, when the first and second flame-fueling liquids are supplied to the first and second reservoirs, the first and second flame-fueling liquids are communicated up the first and second wicks to fuel flames emanating from the flame-bearing ends of the first and second wicks.

  • Publication number: 20050042566
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatus for controlling a flame. One embodiment comprises a reservoir for a flame-fueling liquid, a wick, and a collar surrounding the wick. The first end of the wick is within the reservoir and a flame-bearing end is above the first end. Flame-fueling liquid is supplied to the reservoir and is communicated up the wick to fuel a flame emanating from the flame-bearing end of the wick. The collar is slidable along a vertical axis between a first and second position. In the first position, the top of the collar is located above the flame-bearing end of the wick to block the flow of air from reaching the wick. In the second position, the top of the collar is located below the flame-bearing end of the wick, such that it does not substantially block the flow of air from reaching the wick.
