  • Patent number: 5774259
Abstract: A photostrictive device controller and a photostrictive device control method, which can produce a fast response without causing a sharp temperature rise when driving the photostrictive device. The photostrictive device controller comprises: a light source 2 for applying light to the photostrictive device 1 that, upon receiving light, produces a photostrictive effect; an illumination optics 3 for introducing light from the light source 2 onto the photostrictive device 1; and a control device 4 for controlling the energy density of light applied to the photostrictive device 1. The control device 4 of the controller controls the illumination optics device 3 to lower, at a point close to where the photostrictive effect of the photostrictive device 1 is saturated, the energy density of the irradiated light to a level at which the elongation caused by heat can be ignored.

  • Patent number: 5585961
Abstract: In a photostrictive device whose light-irradiated surface is irradiated with a beam of light with a specified wavelength to produce a photostrictive effect, the light-irradiated surface is formed with a surface roughness Ra related to the wavelength of light. This increases the light absorption of the photostrictive device, thereby improving the responsiveness.

  • Patent number: 5298485
Abstract: A logic circuit device includes a superconductive body formed of a ceramic superconductive material. The ceramic superconductive material has random grain boundaries which act as weak couplings. The ceramic superconductive material also has a magneto-resistive property. There is at least one conductor arranged near the ceramic superconductive body in order to exert a magnetic field on the ceramic superconductive body. The ceramic superconductive body changes its resistance in response to the magnetic field generated by the conductor. The ceramic superconductive body can be used as part of a logic circuit.

  • Patent number: 5227721
Abstract: A superconductinve magneto-resistive device for use in a sensor system for sensing an external magnetic field which is formed so as to have a predetermined pattern for a current path through which a supplied current flows. The pattern includes portions formed close and parallel to each other so that magnetic fields induced by respective currents flowing through the portions can be cancelled with each other.

  • Patent number: 5204653
Abstract: An electromagnetic induction device which comprises a split-type core assembly comprising at least one winding formed thereon and first and second core segments each having at least two joint faces spaced apart from each other, the first and second core segments are connected together with the joint faces of one of the first and second core segments held in contact with the joint faces of the other of the first and second core segments, and a finely divided ferromagnetic material is interposed between the joint faces of the respective first and second core segments. The ferromagnetic material used has an average particle size sufficient to form a magnetic fluid medium.

  • Patent number: 5162848
Abstract: A toner empty detecting system for use in an electrophotographic printer. A sensor detects the presence of toner and provides toner-empty or toner-present signals. A first counter is incremented when toner-empty signals are detected at pre-determined time intervals and the first counter is cleared when a toner-present signal is detected. When the first counter reaches a predetermined value (first occurrence), the first counter is cleared and a second counter counts the number of printed pages until the first counter again reaches the same predetermined value (second occurrence). An indicator signals the first and second occurrence. Upon the second occurrence, the values of the first counter, second counter and indicator are compared and a comparison signal is provided. The printing is stopped if the comparison signal indicates that an actual toner-empty condition exists and the toner empty condition is displayed.

  • Patent number: 5140157
Abstract: A double beam scan type optical apparatus for use in a laser printer or the like. Such apparatus comprises two light sources and a lens system which provide scanning means for scanning a surface with parallel output light beams of the two light sources and beam distance controlling means for controlling the distance between the light beams. The reliability of the invention is improved by monitoring the intensity of the beams. Beam intensity checking means provide signals to verify that the intensity of each beam is maintained equal thus assuring that no abnormal conditions exist with the light sources or the lens system of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4958296
Abstract: A sensor detects a vibration generated due to water leakage. An integration circuit integrates time intervals for which a signal obtained by absolute-value amplifying an output signal from the sensor exceeds a predetermined level within a predetermined period of time. The integration circuit performs the integration a plurality of times. A detection circuit selects a minimum value of a plurality of integration values obtained by the plurality of measurements as an integration value obtained when the influence of unrelated noise is at a minimum and compares the minimum value with a preset reference value. When the minimum value exceeds the reference value, the detection circuit determines the presence of water leakage, and when the minimum value is smaller than the reference value, determines the absence of water leakage.
