  • Patent number: 9603627
Abstract: A polyaxial pedicle screw includes a screwed shaft section for anchoring the pedicle screw in a vertebra, on one axial end of which a shaft head is configured which is coupled in a rotating and/or pivoting manner as well as in a tensile-force transmitting manner to a receiving sleeve for a longitudinal support. The receiving sleeve has a fastening means for selective positional fastening of the receiving sleeve with respect to the shaft section, the fastening means at least consisting of an inlay/pin mounted in the receiving sleeve and acting on the shaft head, and a locking element acting on the inlay/pin. The inlay/pin is configured with attachment points or engagement elements, which are not covered or overlapped by the locking element, for the provisional introduction of a compressive force on the inlay/pin parallel to the locking element.

  • Patent number: 9510874
Abstract: A medical instrument for holding and handling a surgical securing element has a proximal and a distal end. The surgical securing element includes a securing part and a holding part, and is assembled such that in an assembled disposition, the holding part for a connection element is movable in relation to the securing part. The instrument defines a longitudinal axis and includes a pulling part and, movable in relation to the latter in the direction of the longitudinal axis, a pushing part. The proximal end is temporarily couplable to the securing element in the assembled disposition. The instrument further includes an uncoupling device for actively transferring the instrument from a coupled position, in which the pulling part and the holding part are coupled, to an uncoupled position, in which the pulling part and the holding part are separable from one another.

  • Publication number: 20160199106
Abstract: A surgical instrument for manipulating and positioning a surgical rod relative to a surgical implant features two legs rotatably coupled to each other by a hinge. Each leg includes a working end. The working ends come into engagement with the implant upon closing the instrument by rotating the legs around the hinge and pivotally position the instrument relative to the implant around a swivel axis transverse to its longitudinal axis. At least one of the legs includes a contact structure for a surgical rod by which the rod is manipulated and positioned upon swiveling the instrument around the swivel axis relative to a rod seating of the implant. At least one of the legs includes a guide structure for guiding a fixation screw, to be screwed in, for the rod and/or for a tool for screwing in the fixation screw after having positioned the rod in the rod seating.

  • Publication number: 20160000478
Abstract: A medical screw driver includes a shank having a coupling for a handling member for applying torque to the shank. A screw driver portion can be inserted in a pedicle screw head and transmit torque to the screw head. A sleeve is rotatable about the shank and includes a male thread for coupling to a female thread formed at the pedicle screw head. The sleeve has a first sleeve portion having a first engaging portion and a second sleeve portion having a second engaging portion. The first and second engaging portions engage so that the second sleeve portion can transmit torque to the first sleeve portion, and so that the second sleeve portion can be disengaged from the first sleeve portion and drawn off the shank without having to release the first sleeve portion from the pedicle screw head.

  • Patent number: 8408304
Abstract: A bearing for a wellbore tool includes a flow device. The flow device may be a pump such as a positive displacement pump or a hydrodynamic pump. In arrangements, a pump stator connects to a wellbore wall. A pump rotor rotates with a drilling motor, and/or a drill string. Rotation of the pump rotor may generate a pressure differential to displace the fluid. The pump may be configured to flow fluid across a gap between a rotating section and a non-rotating section of the bearing. The fluid may be drawn from a wellbore annulus and also returned into the wellbore annulus. The bearing may support thrust loadings and/or a radial loadings. In embodiments, inserts in the bearing may be used to filter the fluid.
