  • Patent number: 8948136
Abstract: A method of allocating resources in a communication system and a station for the communication system is disclosed. The communication system is such that a plurality of user equipment can communicate data on a dedicated channel. In the method a request for communication resources may be sent from a user equipment to the station on a first protocol layer. Priority information is obtained at the station from a data flow on a second protocol layer. Communication resources may then at least partially be allocated based on said priority information.

  • Publication number: 20070025301
Abstract: A system and method has been disclosed for controlling the transmission flow rate of data bits in a data bit transfer session from a serving entity to a client, the session involving bit transfer over a wireless communications link, the method comprising: setting up the session, included establishing the addressing, by providing a radio control node to establish flow rate parameters relating to the wireless link, monitoring the wireless communication link; based on monitoring, sending new flow rate parameters so that the serving entity can update the transmission rate of the session in accordance with the new rate control parameters.

  • Publication number: 20060165126
Abstract: The invention relates to a packet switched mobile telecommunication system, a rate controlling means in said system, a method and a computer program product. The system comprising at least a first rate controlling means residing in a Radio Controlling Entity, RCE, arranged for controlling bit rates of a first radio link to a first mobile terminal and a second rate controlling means arranged for controlling bit rates of a second radio link to a second mobile terminal. The first rate controlling means comprises means for notifying the second rate controlling means about a change of the bit rates of said first radio link, the first and the second rate controlling means comprise means for negotiating a corresponding change of the second radio link layer bit rate, and the first and the second rate controlling means comprise means for notifying their respective mobile terminals to modify their application layer bit rates accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20060019671
Abstract: A system has user equipment (1; 2) each having buffers (3, 4, 5, 6; 7, 8, 9, 10) for storing packets classified according to priority and ready for transmission over a radio interface to a network element (12). In such a system, user equipment sends capacity request signals (11; 13) indicative of the various priorities of the buffered packets on the radio interface to the network element. Rather than seeking a capacity allocation decision from a higher level in the core network, the network element itself makes the capacity allocation decision and provides a capacity allocation signal (14) to the user equipment. Packets that have thus been allocated capacity by the network element are then sent from the user equipment to the network element. Having the network element make the capacity allocation decisions itself is a more efficient system since the network element is in direct communication with the user equipment over the radio interface and the decision is made in an unmediated way.

  • Publication number: 20060007934
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangements for controlling transmission of data bits in a bit transfer session for transmitting data information from an application server (2) to a client (1), said bit transfer session involving bit transfer over a wireless communications link by means of a transport protocol with a flow control mechanism. According to the present invention a radio resource managing unit (6) sends information regarding the bandwidth on the wireless link that the bit transfer session currently is allowed to use. This feedback information from the radio resource managing unit is used to set and update flow control parameters continuously throughout the session. Thereby optimization of the flow control parameters is facilitated, which makes it possible to enhance the end-user QoS and provide more efficient use of available radio resources.
