Abstract: Bifidobacterium breve CNCM I-3865 (NCC2950), a composition comprising Bifidobacterium breve CNCM I-3865 (NCC2950), and the use of Bifidobacterium breve CNCM I-3865 (NCC2950) in the prevention or treatment of allergic diarrhoea are provided. The Bifidobacterium breve CNCM I-3865 (NCC2950) can be in a non-replicating form and can be administered to at least partially treat allergic diarrhoea or at least partially reduce the risk of developing allergic diarrhoea.

Abstract: The current invention is based upon administration of a probiotic, B. Lactis NCC2818 to healthy young mammals during the critical weaning period (in infants this period is usually from about 3 months to about 12, 18 or 24 months old), so as to accelerate the young mammal's adaptation to new food. The effectiveness of the invention is evidenced herein by morphological and immunological changes observed in a piglet animal model of weaning. Thus, administration of the probiotic according to the invention had a prophylactic effect, preventing the severe discomfort and pathological states associated with the introduction to novel foods during the weaning period.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the fields of food allergy and nutrition. It was found that the stimulation of opioid receptors could be used to treat or prevent food allergy. One embodiment of the present invention concerns hence the use of an opioid receptor stimulating compound like thymoquinone or plant extracts from Nigella sativa, Eupatorium ayapana, Satureja montana or Thymus for the preparation of a composition to treat or prevent food allergy.
