  • Publication number: 20160345217
Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for a link budget limited UE to improve communications performance with a cellular network. The UE may perform signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) measurements and use these measurements to adjust a received signal power value that is provided to the cellular network as a received signal power measurement. The UE may generate the received signal power value based at least in part on the SINR measurement in order to reduce the likelihood of handover when the UE has good SINR but poor received signal power. The UE may also provide preferred configuration information to the base station which enhances the performance of the UE when link budget limited. The configuration information may specify one or more parameter values designed to provide improved performance for a link budget limited device.

  • Publication number: 20160337107
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) and network entity implement improved communication methods which enable a UE to operate using differing modes of operation without detaching from a network. The UE may send first information indicating its capabilities to the network entity and may receive a first indication based on the first information. The first indication may indicate that the UE operate according to a first mode of operation. The UE may receive a second indication based on an occurrence of a first condition detectable at the network entity. The second indication may indicate that the UE operate according to a second mode of operation different from the first mode of operation. The first condition may be an initialization of a real time data packet session for the UE or may be a first message sent by the UE in response to one or more radio conditions exceeding a threshold.

  • Publication number: 20160309508
Abstract: Embodiments include a method, computer program product, and system for grouping electronic devices into contention groups to reduce uplink Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) random access (OFDMA-RA) collisions. An access point may explicitly assign an electronic device to a contention group, or the electronic device may implicitly determine an assignment to the contention group. To explicitly assign a device to a contention group, the access point may randomly assign or assign based on a criteria of the electronic device. Examples of criteria include an association identifier (AID), a traffic type/quality of service (QoS) category, a power saving preference, and an association status. The electronic device may implicitly determine a contention group assignment based on the total number of contention groups.

  • Publication number: 20160218900
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system and method for generating single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) transmissions using a high efficiency architecture. According to some embodiments, frequency resources allocated for a transmission may be determined. The allocated frequency resources may have a bandwidth less than a channel bandwidth of a frequency channel of the transmission, and may be centered around a particular frequency. The frequency may be offset from the center frequency of the channel. A baseband signal located around DC corresponding to the channel center frequency may be generated. The baseband signal may be up-converted to an RF signal using a local oscillator tuned to the frequency around which the allocated frequency resources are centered. The RF signal may be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20160218758
Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for processing a received communication signal by a UE using an analog complex filter and using a single analog-to-digital converter (ADC). A control channel of the communication signal may be decoded to determine the frequency range in which a payload channel is located. The UE may then demodulate only the frequency range containing the payload channel. A complex representation of the received payload channel may be provided to the analog complex filter, with the payload channel shifted to a non-zero frequency IF. The analog complex filter may attenuate any portion of the complex representation that falls near—IF. The UE may then convert only one component path of the filtered complex representation to a digital signal. A complex representation of the digital signal may then be generated, with the payload channel shifted to DC.

  • Patent number: 9380445
Abstract: A device and method generates a hopping scheme for mobile stations of a wireless network. The method includes receiving a number of channels N of the wireless network. The method includes generating a shuffling matrix as a function of the number of channels N, each row of the shuffling matrix being indicative of a respective one of the mobile stations, each column of the shuffling matrix being indicative of a respective broadcast time of a discovery signal in a hopping scheme. The method includes generating the hopping scheme for the mobile stations in the channels as a function of the shuffling matrix. The hopping scheme maximizes an interval between two consecutive broadcast times that any two of the mobile stations are assigned to transmit discovery signals on adjacent channels.
