  • Patent number: 5540615
Abstract: An in-process rotary machine balancer which utilizes a plurality of vibration wave motors with unbalanced rotor members for positioning the unbalanced rotors to cancel a measured imbalance of a rotating machine. Each unbalanced rotor member is positioned in rotation with respect to a rotating machine component by activating a respective vibration wave motor to orient the plurality of unbalanced rotor members to a desired trigonometric configuration which balances the rotating machine part. Preferably, an off-the-shelf vibration wave motor is modified by affixing an eccentric mass to the rotor member which provides the corresponding rotary imbalance. Preferably, a pair of vibration wave motors are utilized on a rotating machine shaft such that their initial configuration offsets and balances each respective eccentric mass in order to determine the imbalance of a rotating shaft. Corresponding rotation of each unbalanced rotor member produces a corresponding opposite imbalance which balances the rotating shaft.

  • Patent number: 5354186
Abstract: A balancer arrangement for a rotating machine element employs a peristaltic pump which pumps a balancing fluid to respective balancing chambers via flexible tubing. In an arrangement which employs four balancing chambers, two peristaltic pumps may be employed to control the flow of balancing fluid between respective pairs of the chambers. The radial positioning of the peristaltic pumps is not fixed, but may be selected in response to specific characteristics of the application. In addition, the pump motors may be configured to drive the peristaltic pump rollers by operation of the rotation of the motor shaft, or the motor housing. The tubing along which the balancing fluid is conducted need not have a circular cross-section, and may be installed in a groove or cavity of the balancing arrangement so as to secure against centrifugal forces and prevent ballooning effects.

  • Patent number: 5101927
Abstract: An automatic brake actuation system for use on a vehicle having an existing braking system is disclosed as including an elongate detector mounted to the vehicle and being controllably extendable from the vehicle to contact objects being approached by the vehicle when at predetermined distances therefrom. A compression sensor is included to sense contact between the elongate detector and an object. Provision is also made to sense vehicle speed, vehicle-object closing speed, and detector position and to extend and retract the detector and actuate the vehicle braking system in response thereto.
