  • Publication number: 20180142103
Abstract: The present invention provides a water-based coating system that can be used to form durable, abrasion resistant, corrosion resistant, protective barriers on a wide range of substrates. The coating system is particularly effective for protecting metal-containing substrates, such as intermodal cargo containers, against corrosion. As an overview, the present invention provides water-based primer compositions suitable to form primer coats and topcoats on substrates. Desirably, the primer incorporates one or more chlorinated resins for excellent corrosion protection. These polymers not only provide excellent corrosion protection and but also show excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrate materials. The system also includes topcoat compositions enhance compatibility and adhesion to the primer and to provide enhanced application.

  • Publication number: 20070282046
Abstract: This invention relates to coating compositions that include water; a latex polymer and a silane coupling agent. The latex polymer preferably comprises acetoacetoxy functionality, or is a multistage latex, or is an acetoacetoxy functional multistage latex. The silane coupling agent is preferably a functionalized silane coupling agent (more preferably an epoxy-functional silane coupling agent). The compositions may be used to coat a variety of substrates, including wood, cement and fiber cement. Articles having the coating applied thereto are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20070269660
Abstract: A coated article is provided that includes a cement composite substrate; and a coating system applied to the substrate. The coating system includes an epoxy-functional coating composition applied to the substrate, and a water-based coating composition, distinct from the epoxy-functional coating composition, applied to the epoxy-based coating. between the compositions. A method is also provided that includes the steps of: providing a cement composite substrate; applying an epoxy-functional coating composition to the substrate; and applying a water-based coating composition, distinct from the epoxy-functional coating composition, to the epoxy-based coating. The water-based coating composition used in this method preferably comprises a polymer having one or more functional groups that can react with the epoxy-based coating to promote adhesion between the compositions.
