  • Patent number: 5586377
Abstract: A system for covering a cushion member with a sack-like trim cover assembly, which includes a securing mechanism with support element and a covering guide mechanism. The sack-liked trim cover assembly is turned inside out and secured on the securing mechanism, with the cushion member secured thereon in an opposedly faced relation with such turnedover trim cover assembly. Both cushion member and trim cover assembly are located precisely by the support element at a given position on the securing mechanism. The securing mechanism and covering guide mechanism are operated in a direction opposite to each other, thereby displacing the cushion member to an opened side of the trim cover assembly, while the trim cover assembly is being turned over again by the covering guide mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5193474
Abstract: A method of feeding a unitary sheet of trim cover assembly to a multiple-needle sewing machine for creating plural stitches thereon, in which non-parallel stitches are formed among parallel stitches on the trim cover assembly by means of a guide member having a sloped portion. The sloped configuration of the guide member causes formation of sloped, folded portion in the trim cover assembly, and the trim cover assembly with such folded portion is fed to the multiple-needle sewing machine.

  • Patent number: 4784710
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a vehicle seat, in which a foam cushion member is placed on an auxiliary support member so that the welding region of the cushion member is positioned horizontally, presenting a flat line, then a covering member is placed on said cushion member, and said covering member and cushion member are welded together by means of ultrasonic welding. In this way, said covering member is uniformly welded to said cushion member.

  • Patent number: 4770730
Abstract: An ultrasonic welding method, in which a covering member is welded to a soft elastic foam body by means of ultrasound. There is employed an ultrasonic vibration horn having a great welding area, and such horn is pressed against a lamination of the covering member and soft elastic foam body at a predetermined or maximum degree of pressure, after which the pressure is reduced and under the reduced pressure, an ultrasonic vibration is applied to the lamination. Thereafter, the horn is pressed once again against the lamination at the same predetermined or maximum degree of pressure, whereby the covering member is welded to the soft elastic foam body.

  • Patent number: 4753481
Abstract: A trim cover assembly of a seat for use as furniture, for use in an automobile or the like is disclosed. The trim cover assembly is provided with a decorative pattern on the surface thereof. To obtain such decorative pattern, a pattern member of a tube is collapsed in a tape form and welded integrally to the surface of the body of the trim cover assembly under heat and pressure.

  • Patent number: 4625350
Abstract: A decorative member such as a welt or a button attached to a surface layer of a seat cushion, and a method and apparatus for forming such a decorative member are disclosed. In the method and apparatus, an upper plate is disposed for vertical movement relative to a lower plate, and a pair of holding members defining an insertion space between their upper end portions are vertically or horizontally movably mounted on the lower plate. A covering and a core providing the decorative member are inserted in the insertion space, and a seat cushion is placed between the upper and lower plates with its surface layer facing the holding members. The upper plate is urged downward toward the lower plate to compress the seat cushion onto the holding members while, at the same time, enclosing the core in the covering in the cooperation with the holding members. High frequency current is supplied to complete the decorative member and to weld it to the surface layer of the seat cushion.

  • Patent number: 4534595
Abstract: A vehicle seat is provided which has a pad member having a depression on its upper surface, adhesive material disposed in the depression in the pad member and a top member adhered to the pad member at the depression by the adhesive material, whereby a depression is formed in the top member and a number of decorative creases are formed along the periphery of the adhered portion of the top member. Alternatively, the top member can have a depression on its upper surface, adhesive material can be disposed on the under surface of the top member below the depression, and a pad member can be adhered to the top member at the depression by the adhesive material whereby a number of decorative creases are formed along the periphery of the adhered portion of the top member. The top member can be either a single sheet of material or an assembly formed of a sheet of material, foamed wadding, and a wadding cover.

  • Patent number: 4521473
Abstract: In a carpet having a through bore, the through bore is formed by fusion-cutting. A hem member is welded integrally to the areas of a napped portion and a base cloth at the circumferential edges of the through bore. This prevents the threads of the napped portion existing at the circumferential edges of the through bore from fraying and also keeps such areas from being stained with oil or the like. Also, a method of welding said hem member to said base cloth is disclosed which comprises: laminating a thermally weldable synthetic resin film for hemming on a carpet, punching out a through bore in the synthetic resin film by means of a high frequency wave, and at the same time welding the hem member integrally to the wall edges of said punched through-bore. The simultaneous operation--welding of the hem member and punching of the through bore--provides a carpet quite easy to form and less expensive.

  • Patent number: 4519862
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cushion material by welding under heat a first layer to an adjoining second layer at necessary portions of the latter by use of a welding member having a plurality of pressure applying projections. The material of the second layer is deformed and molten and flows at temperatures higher than those of the material of the first layer. In the method, the surface portions of the first layer not engaged by the welding member and lying closer to the welding member and/or the welding member itself are cooled by cooling gas thereby welding the first layer to the second layer without giving rise to any appreciable thermal change on the surface of the first layer except the portions engaged by the welding member.
