    Abstract: A resin composition for use in a hybrid lens containing a radical polymerizable monomer and a silane coupling agent. A specified di(meth)acrylate compound and a specified mono(meth)acrylate compound are used preferably as the radical polymerizable monomer. A hybrid lens molding die in which a glass lens base material and a glass mold of transferring an aspherical shape are opposed to each other is used, a resin composition for use in the hybrid lens is filled between them and UV-rays are irradiated from both sides of the glass lens base material and the glass mold to manufacture a hybrid lens in which the resin layer is bonded on the glass lens base material. A high performance hybrid lens having a resin layer of large thickness, with a large localized thickness and capable of increasing the aspherical quantity can be manufactured by the method.

The colored contact lens has sufficiently high fastness, so that the lens undergoes neither color change nor color fading even when it is sterilized by boiling.

    Abstract: A process is provided for producing diastereoisomer A or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt of 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid 3-(1-benzylpyrrolidin-3-yl) ester 5-methyl ester which comprises subjecting a mixture of diastereoisomers A and B of 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid 3-(1-benzylpyrrolidin-3-yl) ester 5-methyl ester to column chromatography using silica gel as a carrier and a mixture of ethyl acetate and acetic acid as an eluant, and then separating the acetate of diastereoisomer A from the eluate, or treating the acetate with a base, or further treating the resulting diastereoisomer A with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid.

    Abstract: An antimicrobial polymer obtained by homo- or copolymerizing a phosphonium salt type vinyl monomer, such as 2-(methacrylic acid) ethyltri-n-octylphosphonium chloride, and a contact lens and an article for its care mainly comprising an antimicrobial resin obtained by copolymerizing a polymerizable monomer and a phosphonium salt type vinyl monomer are disclosed. The antimicrobial polymer has a broad antimicrobial spectrum and produces a sufficient antimicrobial effect after a short contact time. The contact lens and article for its care are hardly effected by contamination with microorganisms while retaining excellent optical performance and processability.
