  • Patent number: 8841365
Abstract: Straight run bitumen is widely used in the production of built-structure waterproofing systems, more particularly waterproofing membranes. In order to be able to obtain supplies of straight run bitumen wherever it is obtainable at favorable prices, it would have to be transported over relatively long distances. Since straight run bitumen is viscid at ambient temperature, it would have to be transported hot, which is not possible with conventional straight run bitumen. According to the invention, the straight run bitumen is admixed with a small proportion of at least one hydrocarbonaceous polymer. This solidifies straight run bitumen at ambient temperatures, making it transportable cold in the solid state.

  • Patent number: 8034854
Abstract: A bitumen mixture for high-performance overlayment roofing membranes having an only minimally higher SBS rubber content, compared with simple roofing membranes, and a comparatively high filler content. The bitumen mixture provides high-quality overlayment roofing membranes having a distinctly reduced SBS rubber content, compared to prior art overlayment roofing membranes, coupled with a nonetheless high filler content.

  • Publication number: 20110000611
Abstract: Roof coverings are formed from underlayment membranes (12) and overlayment membranes (13) which are welded or adhesively bonded thereto. In order to weld the overlayment membrane (13) to the underlayment membrane (12), the welding surfaces (31, 32) to be joined are either melted by open flames from, for example, a gas burner or using hot air. Both open flames and hot air lead to an uncontrolled melting of the welding surfaces (31, 32). In addition, open flames can cause something catching fire. During adhesive bonding, protective films must previously be removed by hand from the adhesive layers. The invention provides for the welding surfaces (31, 32) of the underlayment membrane (12) and of the overlayment membrane (13) to be melted by infrared emitters (27) using in particular short-wave infrared beams. The infrared emitters (27) permit controlled and uniform melting of the welding surfaces (31, 32) over their entire width, which leads to homogeneous welding.

  • Publication number: 20100292369
Abstract: Bitumen mixtures for high-quality overlayment roofing membranes have to meet particularly high requirements. Such bitumen mixtures are typically produced from polymer-modified bitumen having an SBS rubber content of at least 10% by weight and may also have just a comparatively low filler content. The invention provides a bitumen mixture for high-performance overlayment roofing membranes having an only minimally higher SBS rubber content, compared with simple roofing membranes, and a comparatively high filler content. Surprisingly, such a bitumen mixture provides high-quality overlayment roofing membranes having a distinctly reduced SBS rubber content, compared to prior art overlayment roofing membranes, coupled with a nonetheless high filler content.

  • Publication number: 20060189235
Abstract: A reinforcement formed from filaments or fibers which have a core made of inorganic material and an outer sheathing of the core which is composed of organic material. The resulting reinforcement, in particular a roofing membrane with at least one support insert made from such a reinforcement, exhibits superior and balanced material characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5088249
Abstract: A roof covering or wall covering for a building or the like comprising a supporting layer having open channels, preferably made of corrugated metal sheet. Encasing structures, filled with a fire-retarding substance, are located in the channels of the supporting layer. The fire-retarding substance is a thickened liquid. Since the liquid is thickened, it cannot escape or can escape only very slowly from leaky points in the supporting layer in the event of fire. This ensures an evaporation of the fire-retarding liquid to remove the thermoenergy produced during the fire.
