    Abstract: There is disclosed a resin composition for powder coatings, which comprises a blend of two acrylic resins obtained by polymerizing a prescribed amount of monomer component (a-1) represented by formula (I) and a prescribed amount of another monomer component (a-2), respectively, and having different polymerization degrees represented by viscosities at 140.degree. C. and a polybasic acid compound in 1.5 to 0.5 equivalent ratio of the glycidyl groups in said acrylic resins to the acid groups in the polybasic acid compound. ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group. The resin composition for powder coatings that can form a coating film having a mat smooth appearance and being excellent in flexibility as shown by Du Pont impact resistance and the Ericksen test as well as being excellent in nail scratch resistance.

    Abstract: A resin composition for thermosetting coating, which comprises(a.sub.1) an acrylic copolymer having a particular acid value and/or (a.sub.2) an acrylic copolymer having a particular acid value and a particular hydroxyl value,(b) an acrylic copolymer having a particular epoxy equivalent,(c) a monobasic acid having a dissociation constant (pKa) of 3 or less, and, as necessary,(d) an amino resin and(e) a quaternary phosphoium salt,and wherein the equivalent ratio of the acid groups of (a.sub.1) and/or (a.sub.2) and the epoxy groups of (b) is 1:0.5 to 0.5:1 and the amounts of (c), (d) and (e) are 0.01-5 parts by weight, 1-25 parts by weight and 0.01-3 parts by weight, respectively, per 100 parts by weight of the total of (a.sub.1) and/or (a.sub.2) and (b).The resin composition, when used as a clear coating for automobiles, is superior in film appearance, acid resistance, solvent resistance water resistance, weatherability, storage stability and low temperature curing.

    Abstract: A resin composition for powder coatings that comprises a composition (A) and a blocked polyisocyanate compound (B), the composition (A) being based on both a carboxyl group containing polyester resin having a hydroxyl value of 10 to 100 and a softening point of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C. and a glycidyl group containing acrylic resin having a hydroxyl value of 30 to 150 and a softening point of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C., and further containing a copolymer prepared by reaction between said polyester and acrylic resins. This resin composition is capable of providing an ideal paint film that possesses the features of a paint film prepared from polyester resins (high degrees of smoothness, gloss and strength) and those of a paint film prepared from acrylic resins (high levels of hardness, stain resistance and weatherability).

    Abstract: A composition for thermosetting powder coating, which comprises(a) an acrylic copolymer of high softening point having an epoxy equivalent of 250-1,000 g/eq and a softening point of 90.degree.-160.degree. C.,(b) an acrylic copolymer of low softening point having an epoxy equivalent of 200-600 g/eq and a softening point of 30.degree.-70.degree. C.,(c) a polycarboxylic acid, and(d) optionally, a phosphoric acid ester compound and/or a phosphorous acid ester compound,and wherein the difference in softening point between (a) and (b) is 60.degree.-120.degree. C., the weight ratio of (a)/(b) is 95/5 to 60/40, and the equivalent ratio of [the total epoxy groups of (a) and (b)] : [the acid group of (c)] is 0.5:1 to 1:0.5.Said composition has excellent storage stability and, when used as a coating for automobiles, gives a film superior in appearance, solvent resistance and acid resistance.
