  • Patent number: 8297781
Abstract: In an embodiment, the invention provides a multi-color illuminating back light structure comprising a light guide, a reflector, at least one LED and a wavelength converter material. Micro-structures are formed on a first surface of the light guide. The reflector is attached to the first surface of the light guide. A wavelength converter material is deposited on a second surface of the light guide. At least one LED is optically coupled to at least one side of the light guide. A portion of light reflected from the micro-structures and the reflector is converted into light having at least one wavelength different from the wavelength of the reflected light. The light leaving the wavelength converter material comprises light with at least first and second wavelengths.

  • Patent number: 8026672
Abstract: A light emitting device is disclosed herein. An embodiment of the light emitting device comprises a first plurality of light emitters comprising a first group and a second group, wherein the first group is connectable in series to the second group. A first driver is connected to the first group. A second driver is connectable to the second group. A first voltage comparator is coupled to the first driver, wherein the voltage comparator compares the voltage of the first driver to a predetermined voltage. The light emitting device is in a first state when the voltage of the first driver is below the predetermined voltage. The light emitting device is in a second state when the voltage of the first driver is greater than the predetermined voltage. The light emitting device is in the first state, the first group is connected in series with the second group to form a series circuit between the first driver and a reference voltage.

  • Patent number: 7348530
Abstract: In one embodiment, apparatus is provided with a light source, an optic element, at least one photosensor, and a control system. The optic element has a reflective material on a surface thereof, and is positioned to receive and reflect light emitted by the light source. The at least one photosensor is mounted to the surface of the optic element on which the reflective material resides, over a portion of the optic element on which the reflective material does not reside. The control system is operably associated with both the photosensor(s) and the light source, to regulate the light source's light output in accordance with measurements received from the photosensor(s).

  • Patent number: 7012382
Abstract: An LED-based light system includes a primary light source and at least one redundant light source. The primary light source is activated by itself and the performance of the light source is measured to determine whether nor not to drive the redundant light source. The redundant light source is activated when the performance measurements indicate that a performance characteristic is not being met by the primary light source alone. The first light system can be activated in combination with the redundant light source once the decision is made to activate the redundant light source.
