  • Publication number: 20120033535
Abstract: The present invention provides a multilayer optical disc and an optical disc drive which can identify recording layers without performing tracking servo control or changing the structure of the disc. In a multilayer optical disc 100, the recording layer includes a layer identification region 101 having a recording pattern for layer identification, the layer identification region 101 including a layer specific region 102 having a specific pattern and a common region 103 having a common pattern different from the specific pattern, the layer specific region 102 being provided at a different radial position in each of the recording layers. The optical disc drive detects the layer specific region 102 having the specific pattern from the layer identification region 101 of the multilayer optical disc 100, and identifies the current layer based on the radial position of the layer specific region.

  • Publication number: 20110051589
Abstract: Where a hybrid disc has different types of media, the light spot moves among recording layers of the different media, after loading the disc into an optical disc apparatus, there is a problem that information on a media type of each recording layer should be recorded in DI etc. of the optical disc. Detailed information on the hybrid disc is stored in DI, by changing a disc layer type identifier or a disc structure in DI such as BCA or PIC on the optical disc.

  • Patent number: 7391695
Abstract: The mark-length recording system whereby information is recorded by changing the lengths of a recorded portion and an unrecorded or erased portion has a problem that, when new information is recorded in an already recorded region, the newly recorded information may deteriorate in reliability because the length and width of the newly recorded mark are different from those of the previously recorded mark and a part may exist that is not completely erased at the time of overwriting. The invention widens a setting freedom of the recording power and controls the length and width of the recorded mark by making the effective recording pulse length (the length from a rise of a first pulse to a fall of a last pulse) satisfy a relation: (effective recording pulse length)<(recording code length, i.e., the length of data to be recorded)?2T(twice the reference clock cycle).

  • Publication number: 20080112289
Abstract: An optical disk apparatus is provided that has a signal processing circuit for equalizing a signal so as to achieve predetermined equalization, in which interference between codes is permitted, by means of an adaptive equalization circuit or the like, and for performing binarization by means of a maximum likelihood decoding circuit in which interference is performed as a rule, and thereby achieves stabilized signal reproduction in a narrow-band transmission. When evaluating the quality of the recorded signal through the use of the recording parameter learning and the reproduction system such as recorded signal verification, the optical disk recording apparatus is capable of highly precisely evaluating the quality of the recorded signal by fixing a circuit characteristic after suspending the optimization operation of the adaptive equalization circuit or the like for optimizing the characteristic by the reproduced signal. An optical disk recording method is also provided.
