  • Patent number: 5613390
Abstract: In a corner reduction device for reducing side corners of a slab with corner rolls, a pair of upper and lower corner rolls are mounted inside a unitary unit frame, and a corner roll unit housing the unitary frame which is movable in the direction of width and vertical direction of the material is formed. Vertical position of the corner roll unit is controlled by a lifting power control cylinder through a push rod and position in direction of material width is controlled by a reduction cylinder. Driving of cylinder servo valves is controlled in accordance with position set values set by position setters, load set values set by load setters, and feedback signals from position sensors, thereby controlling the corner roll positions to fixed lateral and vertical positions. The driving of the servo valves is corrected according to values detected by cylinder pressure sensors, to evenly reduce the right and left corners of the material.

  • Patent number: 5600986
Abstract: In a sizing press for reducing by pressure width of hot slabs of both a low carbon steel and a stainless steel, the reduction by pressure of width is performed quickly without replacing the dies each time. Two or more types of dies having caliber configurations for respectively reducing the width at least of a low carbon steel and a stainless steel are disposed in layers and are retained in a manner capable of being displaced in an up and down direction. They may be replaced as a block with another block of stacked dies.

  • Patent number: 4949777
Abstract: A continuous casting process introduces the factor of rate temperature change for detecting break out in the cast metal. Introduction of rate of temperature change as a parameter representative of the cast metal condition is successful for avoiding the influence of variation of the casting condition, fluctuation of the powder to be introduced between the casting mold wall and the cast metal, casting speed and so forth. For achieving accurate detection of break out of the cast metal by introducing the temperature change factor, casting mold wall temperatures are measured at various measuring points which are circumferentially aligned. Rates of temperature change at each measuring point and average rate of temperature change of all measuring points are derived and compared for making judgement of possible break out when the difference of the rate of temperature change at each measuring point and the average rate of temperature change becomes greater than a predetermined value.
