Abstract: An image-area separation apparatus includes a SIMD processor performing a SIMD process for performing an image-area separation process and an image-area separation mechanism for performing an image-separation operation according to the SIMD process performed by the SIMD processor. The image-area separating apparatus performs an image-area separation operation to separate character images from figure images by means of software while the SIMD-typed processor achieves a high-speed image data processing.

Abstract: A technique for controlling membrane denaturation reactions other than physical shear force was developed. For example, the present invention provides, a method for causing membrane disruption at a specific site by reacting a stimulus such as light with a compound that is activated by the stimulus, where the reaction occurs on a membrane such as a biomembrane. It also provides a membrane structure such as cells in which a specific site has been disrupted, which are obtained by the present method. Introduction of substances such as genes also became possible by using this membrane structure. Further provided is a membrane-destroying member for disrupting a membrane at a specific site. Thus, the present invention enabled, for example, easy membrane penetration using components constituting microelectrodes, micromanipulators, and microinjectors, which were conventionally hardly usable in penetrating cell membranes.

Abstract: An image processing method is disclosed that is capable of efficient information extraction when embedding information in an image by using plural information embedding methods. The image processing method includes steps of embedding target information in the image by using one or more methods selected from plural information embedding methods; and embedding identification information in the image for identifying the selected one or more methods. The identification information is embedded in a method allowing an amount of the embedded information to be less than an amount of the embedded information in each of the selected one or more methods.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for creating a database backup schedule in a SAN environment based on a recovery plan. A user provides a desired recovery point objective (RPO) from a system recovery plan and an identifier of a database for back up. The present invention determines a priority (w) for a recent recovery point and determines a number (N) of volumes for storing backup images and a number (n) of database volumes used by the database. The present invention generates a scheduling formula where RPO is divided by the priority (w) of the most recent recovery point raised to the power of the truncated integer value of the ratio of volumes for storing backup images (N) and the number of volumes in use by the database (n) minus a scheduling interval determinant (i). The scheduling formula is used to determine a backup interval and backup assurance points.
