  • Publication number: 20100217493
Abstract: In an idle stop system for an engine mounted in a vehicle, when it is determined predetermined stop conditions are met, the engine is automatically stopped. During the engine stop, when it is determined that predetermined restart conditions are met, the engine is automatically restarted. Further, it is determined whether or not a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the restart of the engine. When it is determined that the predetermined period of time has elapsed, the clutch mechanism is controlled into the connection thereof at and after a time instant when it is determined that the predetermined period of time has elapsed. Hence, the connected state of the clutch mechanism is realized after a controlled delay.

  • Publication number: 20100184562
Abstract: A controller stops a fuel injection when a vehicle is in a specified decelerate condition where the vehicle likely stops and an automatic stop requirement is generated. An input shaft and an output shaft of a shift transmission mechanism are directly connected with each other through a direct connector so that a driving power is transmitted from an engine to a driving shaft through a power transmitter which permits a sliding between an input shaft and an output shaft thereof. When a restart requirement is generated before the vehicle is completely stopped, the engine is restarted under a condition where the input shaft and the output shaft of the shift transmission mechanism are connected with each other by a direct connector. When the restart requirement is not generated before the vehicle is completely stopped, the input shaft and the output shaft are disconnected when the vehicle is completely stopped.

  • Publication number: 20100180849
Abstract: In a system, an angle sensor outputs a pulse each time an output shaft of an internal combustion engine rotates by a preset angle, and a calculator calculates speed-change information indicative of a change in a speed of rotation of the output shaft based on the pulses outputted from the angle sensor. A determiner determines, based on the speed-change information, whether at least one of the pulses outputted from the angle sensor represents a proper timing for a preset of a pinion of a starter with a ring gear mounted on the output shaft. A pinion engaging unit shifts the pinion toward the ring gear so that the pinion is engaged with the ring gear when it is determined that the at least one of the pulses outputted from the angle sensor represents the proper timing for the preset of the pinion with the ring gear.

  • Patent number: 7710068
Abstract: A power supply control apparatus for controlling an electric generator of a vehicle limits the rate of change of a power supply voltage to a predetermined variation rate range, when the change is caused by operations to control the charge condition of the vehicle battery, and controls the generated power to match the drive torque applied by the engine to the generator. When the electrical load demand changes, the generated power is controlled to limit a resultant momentary change in the power supply voltage caused by an engine response delay, while minimizing a resultant momentary amount of engine speed variation.

A power supply is electrically connected to the motor and operative to output electrical power. A first mechanical relay is electrically connected between the power supply and the motor, and works to turn on and off a supply of a current based on the electrical power to the motor for rotating the pinion. A switching element is electrically connected across the first mechanical relay, and works to turn on and off the supply of the current to the motor for rotating the pinion.

  • Publication number: 20100059007
Abstract: An engine start system which may be employed in automotive idle stop systems. The engine start system includes a pinion gear to be pushed to a ring gear coupled to an engine for achieving meshing engagement with the ring gear. After the pinion gear engages the ring gear, the engine start system starts to rotate the pinion gear using a starter motor to crank the engine. Specifically, when an engine restart request is made following an engine stop request, the engine start system waits until after the speed of the engine drops below a preselected gear engageble speed and then moves the pinion gear toward the ring gear without rotating the pinion gear. This minimizes the consumption of fuel in the vehicle in supplying electric power to the starter motor and a maximum level of mechanical noise arising from the engagement of the pinion gear with the ring gear.

  • Publication number: 20100050970
Abstract: In a system, a starter includes a motor for rotatably driving an output shaft with a pinion and an actuator that shifts the pinion toward a ring gear to be engaged with the ring gear. A monitor unit monitors a rotational speed of the internal combustion engine. The rotational speed of the internal combustion engine drops after an automatic control for stop of the engine. When an engine restart request occurs with the rotational speed being within a preset range during the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine dropping by the automatic control for stop of the engine, a drive unit drives the actuator to shift the pinion toward the ring gear to be engaged with the ring gear. The drive unit rotatably drives the motor with the pinion being engaged with the ring gear to thereby crank the crankshaft.

  • Publication number: 20090127930
Abstract: An ECU in an electric power system for a vehicle controls a DC-DC converter so that an alternator transmits a residual generated electric power to a sub battery while a terminal voltage of a main battery is maintained within an optimally specified voltage range. This residual generated electric power is obtained by subtracting from a maximum generating electric power of the alternator an electric power to be consumed by electric loads and an electric power with which the main battery is charged. This can suppress any fluctuation of the voltage of electric power of the electric power system, namely, the output voltage of the alternator and the voltage of the main battery, and perform a maximum regenerative electric power generation. The sub battery is efficiently changed with the regenerative electric power.

  • Patent number: 7463949
Abstract: A power control apparatus acquires a maximum supply amount of power, transient maximum supply amount of power, and transient minimum supply amount of power of each power supply source. The apparatus further acquires a power cost of respective power supply sources, a load-required power and a charge request power. The apparatus acquires a combination of power supply sources that minimizes specific fuel consumption and determines an allocation amount of power. Taking transient response of respective power supply sources into account, the allocation amount of power of each power supply sources is corrected to be greater than a transient minimum supply power and smaller than a transient maximum supply power.

  • Patent number: 7336002
Abstract: A main power source is, for example, an ordinary Pb battery. At the time of starting an engine, the main power source supplies power to a starter. The main power source is given a higher priority than an auxiliary power source to supply power to ordinary loads. The auxiliary power source is a high performance battery (e.g., Li ion battery), which has superior charge acceptance capability and better state detectability over the main power source. The auxiliary power source stores regenerative power, which is generated by a generator at the time of deceleration of a vehicle, and is used as a redundant power source for the main power source. The main power source and the auxiliary power source are connected to each other through a supply circuit, which has a DC/DC converter, and a second supply circuit, which has a switch.

  • Patent number: 7329204
Abstract: For regenerative generation at deceleration of a vehicle, a regenerative control apparatus for vehicles equipped with a lock-up clutch comprises a control unit for controlling rotary electric machine and the lock-up clutch. When the clutch is in a complete disengagement state or a slipping state at deceleration, the control unit controls the rotary electric machine to execute regenerative generation at a partial generation level lower than a regenerative generation level in a complete engagement state. When the clutch is in a complete engagement state at regenerative generation, the control unit controls the clutch so that the coupling state is transferred to a slipping state or a complete disengagement state when the number of revolutions having correlation to engine speed becomes lower than a predetermined threshold. Thus, recovering efficiency of the regenerative braking energy can be enhanced, while suppressing engine stall due to drastic increase of engine load torque.
