  • Publication number: 20090290127
Abstract: A projection type display device includes a image displaying element 20 having image display areas 20a, 20b for displaying a plurality of images respectively, a projection optical system 30A having an emitting part for emitting projection light flux to the image display areas 20a, 20b of the image displaying element 20, and a plurality of screens for displaying projected images by the projection light flux transmitted through the image display areas 20a, 20b of the image displaying element 20. In the projection type display device, the image display areas are formed in respective areas in the image displaying element independent of each other. The projected images on the screens correspond to the image display areas, respectively. Each of the screens is arranged in such a position that the each of the screens is not overlapped with shadows of the other screens which are produced since the projection light flux is emitted from the emitting part to the screens.

  • Publication number: 20090237616
Abstract: A projection type image display device includes a LED light source, a polarizing plate, a crossdichroic mirror, three reflective spatial light modulation elements and a projection lens. The LED light source emits lights with three wavelengths. The polarizing plate transmits a first linear polarized light therethrough and reflects a second linear polarized light. The crossdichroic mirror separates the first linear polarized light into three separated lights according to the wavelengths and emits as three separated linear polarized lights, and combines lights entering and emits from an entering direction of the first linear polarized light. The crossdichroic mirror includes two color separation filters arranged so as to be inclined at about 45 degrees with respect to light entering.

  • Publication number: 20090168450
Abstract: A light source device includes an optical element 22 having a first face 1 opposed to a solid light emitting element 21. The optical element 22 includes second and third faces 2, 3 opposing in parallel to each other and both substantially perpendicular to the first face 1, a fourth face 4 substantially perpendicular to the second and third faces 2, 3 and also obliquely-opposed to the first face 1 and a fifth face 5 as an exit face. The fifth face 5 has an area smaller than an area of a light emitting face of the solid light emitting element 21. The light source device further includes a polarization converting element 42 having an incident surface opposing in substantially-parallel to the fifth face 5 through a space, polarization separating elements 43 for separating incident light from the optical element 22 in polarization, a first reflecting surface 45 for reflecting one of polarization-separated fluxes and wave plates 44 for converting either of phases of the polarization-separated fluxes.

  • Patent number: 7350927
Abstract: The present invention includes a reflection portion which light-modulates three primary color lights by three rectangular reflective liquid crystal light modulators, then color-combine the light-modulated lights and reflects the resultant light; and a projection lens which projects the reflected color-combined light onto a plane mirror. The three reflective light modulators are arranged in such a manner that their long side directions coincide with a perpendicular direction, and two of the three reflective light modulators are arranged in such a manner that their short side directions become parallel with a projecting direction of image light from a color separation/combination optical system.

  • Patent number: 7239454
Abstract: An image display apparatus includes a diaphragm (9b) arranged at a pupil position. The shape of an aperture of the diaphragm (9b) is similar to the shape of a light source image formed by an illuminating optical system at the pupil position. An area varying mechanism (90) varies the area of the aperture of the diaphragm (9b) in response to a focal length varying operation of a projection lens (9). This prevents an excessive opening from being formed around a light source image cast by the illuminating optical system, thereby preventing the deterioration of displayed images due to unwanted light that may pass through the excessive opening.
