  • Publication number: 20070277185
Abstract: Increases in the data transfer rates of optical disc drives have resulted in problems such as increases in optical disc vibrations due to higher rotation speeds or increases in heat generation due to increases in the output of motors for rotating the optical discs and in the output of laser diodes. To solve such problems, an optical pickup is provided with an air duct therein, and a space that is formed between the optical disc and a top case of a casing and that has negative pressure during rotation of the optical disc is connected to the air duct in the optical pickup via a tube, at least part of the tube being deformable. The optical pickup is cooled by the air flow through the air duct induced by pressure difference.

  • Publication number: 20070150909
Abstract: In a disc drive for achieving cooling of an electronic part therein, as well as, suppressing transmission of noises generated from a disc clamper, etc., a channel member 18 for introducing an outside air into an inside is disposed between a supporting member 15 and a top-cover 10, within an inside thereof is formed a vortex-like channel, extending from a center to an outer periphery thereof. At the center of the channel member 18 is formed an opening 19 for introducing the outside air into the inside of the disc drive, and on the top-cover 10 are provided plural numbers of openings 20 for taking the outside air into the channel member 18. When an optical disc 6 rotates, pressure generated on an upper surface thereof comes to be negative to the outside air, then the outside air is taken from the openings 20, through the vortex-like channel of the channel member 18 and the opening 19, into the inside of the drive, so as to pass through electronic parts, such as, an optical pickup, etc., thereby cooling them.

  • Patent number: 4907434
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and device for controlling a thickness of a strip in a rolling mill which has a roll gap adjusting device and a rolling speed adjusting device. Rolling environment disturbances received by the mill are classified into a first disturbance for which only the rolling speed should be compensated, a second disturbance for which only the roll gap should be compensated, and a third disturbance for which both the rolling speed and the roll gap should be compensated. The values of the first, second and third disturbances are estimated, based on detected values of a variation of a roll force exerted on the given rolling stand, variations of a thickness of the strip on the downstream and upstream sides of the given rolling stand, and a variation of a tension of the strip on the upstream side of the given rolling stand.
