Patent number: 7942423Abstract: A resin lip type seal (1) capable of increasing safety against rupture by reducing rigidity of a plate-like lip (4) bent around a tip point A of a approximately wedge-shaped recessed part (8) to reduce stress concentration at the point A, suppressing the lowering of sealability due to a reduction in creep of the lip, and increasing the follow-up capability of the lip to the eccentricity of its axis. Indentations are formed on the slidable contact surface (41) of the plate-like lip (4) or/and the anti-slidable contact surface (42) thereof. Indentations (7) are also formed on the sloped slidable contact surface (21) of the inner lip (2) of the seal. Then, the ratio of the portion of each of the slidable contact surfaces where the indentations (7) are formed is ½ or more of each of the surface areas of the slidable contact surfaces (21, 41, 42).Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2006Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: NOK CorporationInventors: Yosuke Kondo, Yasuaki Tanabe, Junichi Nakayama, Tamio Inamura, Koichi Mizunoya, Takeo Otani, Kokichi Hamamoto

Publication number: 20090302549Abstract: A resin lip type seal (1) capable of increasing safety against rupture by reducing the rigidity of a plate-like lip (4) bent about the tip point A of a roughly wedge-shaped recessed part (8) to reduce stress concentration at the point A, suppressing the lowering of sealability due to a reduction in the creep of the lip, and increasing the follow-up capability of the lip to the eccentricity of its axis. Slits are formed in the slidable contact surface (41) of the plate-like lip (4) or/and the anti-slidable contact surface (42) thereof. Slits (7) are also formed in the sloped slidable contact surface (21) of the inner lip (2) of the seal.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2006Publication date: December 10, 2009Applicant: NOK CORPORATIONInventors: Yosuke Kondo, Yasuaki Tanabe, Junichi Nakayama, Tamio Inamura, Koichi Mizunoya, Takeo Otani, Kokichi Hamamoto

Publication number: 20070241515Abstract: In a sealing device (1) , in which a main seal lip (6) used for a shock absorber is formed in a one-stage seal lip structure, for the purpose to improve friction characteristics while securing sealing performance, a roughened portion (63) to which satin finishing is applied to form projections and recessions on the surface thereof is formed on the sliding surface (61) of the main seal lip (6) slidably moving on a contacting member at a position apart a specified distance from a lip edge (62). An area between the lip edge (62) and the portion where the roughened portion (63) is formed is a plane portion (64) to which the satin finishing for forming irregularities is not applied. In place of the satin finishing, a plurality of axially extending projections (65), concave threads (67), or lattice-shaped projections (68) may be formed on the roughened portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2005Publication date: October 18, 2007Applicant: Nok CorporationInventors: Hiroyuki Sato, Masaru Watanabe, Koichi Mizunoya, Takeo Otani, Hidenori Arai, Sosuke Ito, Ryota Okubo

Patent number: 6394463Abstract: The oil seal of the present invention for a valve stem includes a triple seal lip having a cam chamber side lip, a first combustion chamber side lip and a second combustion chamber side lip. Notches are provided on the second combustion chamber side lip and other notches are provided on the first combustion chamber side lip. These notches permit flow communication from the cam chamber side with the combustion chamber side. The notches provided on the combustion chamber side lip and the notches provided on the second combustion chamber side lip are placed circumferentially shifted from each other so that the notches are not axially aligned relative to the notches. Preferably, the non-notched portion is axially aligned and spaced apart relative to the notched portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2000Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: Freudenberg-Nok General PartnershipInventor: Takeo Otani
