  • Patent number: 5784514
Abstract: An apparatus of the present invention is an apparatus for housing a splice reinforcing portion of optical fiber, which comprises (a) a first holding member for holding a splice reinforcing portion for reinforcing a splice between a first optical fiber and a second optical fiber optically connected to the first optical fiber and constituting a light transmission line together with the first optical fiber, and (b) a first photosensor disposed on a side surface of the splice reinforcing portion, receiving leaking light from the splice reinforcing portion, and fixed to the first holding member.

  • Patent number: 5561728
Abstract: This invention relates to micro-driving members for performing alignment of optical fibers and the like. Backlash is eliminated by forming constituent elements as integral components, thereby improving driving precision. Each micro-driving member includes a base portion in which an insertion hole for an urging means is formed, a support portion integral with the base portion and opposing the insertion hole, an urged portion urged by the urging means, and a table portion for supporting a driving target. The table portion has one side connected to a first horizontal flexible portion extending from the support portion, and the other side which is open.

  • Patent number: 5418869
Abstract: In a fixing portion of an optical fiber-type wave-divider-multiplexer, an optical fiber glass portion is fixed to a fixing member by an adhesive. A groove reaching at least a core portion of the optical fiber is cut from the fixing member. This groove may be cut up to a position where the optical fiber is cut across. An optical filter is inserted into the cut groove, and is fixed by an adhesive or the like. As a result, the optical fiber can be provided with light passing characteristics corresponding to the characteristics of the optical filter.

  • Patent number: 5367591
Abstract: An optical fiber reinforcing structure and method of manufacture thereof for reinforcing an optical fiber having a cladding portion removed to expose a fiber core portion. The optical fiber with the fiber core portion is placed in a longitudinal groove of a reinforcing member. The optical fiber is fixed to the reinforcing member at the ends of the longitudinal groove using an adhesive. A cover is then fixed to the reinforcing member to hermetically seal the optical fiber within the longitudinal groove. The reinforcing structure of the present invention prevents environmental conditions from adversely affecting the optical characteristics of the optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 5104021
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus and method for cutting optical fibers including a pair of slip-grasping clamps arranged to grasp an exposed optical fiber between them such that a slip-grasping force on the optical fiber is maintained constant. An injuring edge is urged against the optical fiber at a point between the two clamps to initially injure the optical fiber. A pressing block is then urged against the optical fiber from a side opposite the initial injury so that tension is exerted on the optical fiber by the slip-grasping force of the clamps, thereby cutting the fiber.

  • Patent number: 4768855
Abstract: An optical fiber holder for use in optical fiber splicing, which comprises a pair of upper and lower holding bodies pivotally connected each other, at least one supporting member slidably mounted on at least one of the holding bodies, at least two pairs of upper and lower rollers facing each other, one of the upper and lower rollers being rotatably mounted on the supporting member so that they are arranged on a line passing through the axes of the rollers which is inclined with respect to the horizontal line, the other being mounted on one of the holding bodies, the supporting member being forced by a spring means so that the rollers mounted thereon come close to the opposite rollers.
