  • Patent number: 5048860
Abstract: A vehicle suspension system comprises a wheel carrying member for rotatably carrying a wheel of a vehicle. The wheel carrying member is provided with an extension extending upwardly. A first upper arm member extends in a substantially longitudinal direction of the vehicle and is pivotally connected at one end with an upper end portion of said the extension and at the other end with a vehicle body member. A second upper arm member is arranged downward of the first upper arm member, extending in a substantially transverse direction of the vehicle and pivotally connected at one end with the wheel carrying member and at the other end with the vehicle body member. A lower arm is connected at one end with a lower portion of the wheel carrying member and at the other end with the vehicle body member for restricting at least a longitudinal and transverse movement of the wheel carrying member. A desirable camber and caster angle control can be accomplished.

  • Patent number: 5016911
Abstract: A hydropneumatic suspension system for a vehicle has a hydraulic cylinder-piston device connected between the vehicle body and each of the wheels, and a plurality of gas springs which exert a spring force according to the hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic chamber of the cylinder-piston device. Each gas spring has a fluid chamber and a gas chamber which are defined in a casing and are separated from each other by a movable partition wall, and the fluid chamber is communicated with the hydraulic chamber of the hydraulic cylinder-piston device. The upper end portion of the piston rod is supported by the vehicle body by way of a mount. The piston rod is provided with a fluid passage which axially extends through the piston rod and the lower end of which opens to the hydraulic chamber of the cylinder-piston device. A support member is fixed to the piston rod at an upper portion below the mount.

  • Patent number: 5009449
Abstract: A vehicle rear suspension system comprises a wheel carrying member for rotatably carrying a wheel of a vehicle, a plurality of lateral links connected to a vehicle body at inner ends and to the wheel carrying member at outer ends, a trailing arm extending rearwardly and connected to the vehicle body at its front end for pivotal movement and to the wheel carrying member at its rear end through a joint. The joint is located on a substantially straight line extending through both a front connecting point between the trailing arm and the vehicle body and a wheel center or outward of the line in the transverse direction. The joint allows a relative angular displacement between the wheel carrying member and the longitudinal member in a substantially horizontal plane so that no toe-out movement is produced in the wheel under a braking condition of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5009448
Abstract: A suspension system for a vehicle includes a suspension arm. The outer end portion of the suspension arm is connected to a wheel support for rotatably supporting a wheel. The inner end portion of the suspension arm is bifurcated and has first and second branch arms spaced from each other in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body. Each of the inner end portions of the first and second branch arms is supported by a slide member so that the inner end portion is slidable relative to the vehicle body in the longitudinal direction of the same. A coil spring is provided for at least one of the first and second branch arms and urges forward the suspension arm. • Patent number: 4978135
Abstract: A vehicle suspension system includes a liquid piston-cylinder device connected between the vehicle body and a wheel. A liquid pump is provided in a liquid passage which connects the liquid piston-cylinder device to a reservoir in which hydraulic liquid is reserved, and feeds under pressure the hydraulic liquid in the reservoir through the liquid passage. A control valve controls the flow of the hydraulic liquid through the liquid passage, thereby controlling feed and discharge of the hydraulic liquid to and from the liquid piston-cylinder device in order to control the properties of the suspension. An accumulator is connected to the liquid passage between the liquid pump and the control valve and accumulates the hydraulic liquid under pressure. A return passage connects the reservoir to the liquid passage between the liquid pump and the control valve and is provided with an on-off valve which opens and closes the return passage.

  • Patent number: 4978131
Abstract: In a rear suspension system for a four-wheel-steered vehicle, each wheel support is connected to a rear wheel turning rod so that the rear wheel on the wheel support is turned about a king pin axis when the rear wheel turning rod is displaced. Upper and lower arms define the king pin axis, and the rear wheel on the wheel support is turned about the king pin axis in response to displacement of the rear wheel turning rod. The king pin axis is tilted inward from the vertical and intersects the tread of the rear wheel at a point which is longitudinally offset from the point at which a side force acts on the rear wheel during cornering. A coil spring is connected between the wheel support and the vehicle body and restrains vertical motion of the wheel support under the counterforce thereof.
