The control unit calculates a correction amount with which the transport amount of the medium is corrected, based on the detection amount. When the detection amount is an abnormal value, the transport unit is controlled based on the correction amount obtained before the detection amount becomes the abnormal value.

This makes it possible to cause the tension of the roll paper to be uniform regardless of the paper width so as to transport the roll paper precisely.
