    Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical recording medium having a recording layer, a reflective layer and a protective layer on a substrate, wherein a quinophthalone compound represented by the following formula (1) is contained in the above recording layer. The use of the quinophthalone compound or a mixture of the quinophthalone compound and a photoabsorbing compound having an absorption maximum in a wavelength falling in a range of 550 to 900 nm in the recording layer makes it possible to provide an interchangeable optical recording medium not only capable of recording and reproducing with a laser having a wavelength falling in a range of 480 to 600 nm, but is also capable of recording and reproducing with red lasers having wavelengths of 630 nm and 680 nm and a near infrared laser having a wavelength of 780 nm.

    Abstract: An optical information recording medium is here disclosed which comprises a transparent substrate, a recording layer comprising an organic dyestuff on which information can be written by a laser beam, a reflective layer and a protective layer formed in this order on the substrate, the aforesaid optical information recording medium being characterized by containing a pit.edge control agent for the formation of recording pits, particularly a dyestuff thermal decomposition accelerator in the recording layer. By the addition of the pit.edge control agent, deviation properties and jitter properties can be remarkably improved, whereby a CD-R medium having a low error rate and good recording properties can be provided. In consequence, stable compatibility with a commercial CD player can be secured.

    Abstract: A developing device includes a developing section provided with an applicator for applying a developer to a latent electrostatic image and a supporting section for supporting the developing section turnably between an operating position at which the developer held on the applicator acts on image-bearing member and a non-operating position at which the developer held on the applicator does not substantially act on the image-bearing member. According to a first aspect, positioning device acts on the developing section and holds it at the operating position. According to a second aspect, there is provided device for holding the developing section at the non-operating position at the time of mounting a main body of the developing device on an image-forming machine. According to a third aspect, when the main body of the developing device is mounted on the image-forming machine, electrical connecters provided thereon are electrically coupled to each other.

Developer is applied to the developing section when development is performed by displacement of the developer feed controller and is shut off when the developing unit is not used for development.

    Abstract: Magnetic powder protected from subsequent oxidation and deterioration can be obtained by effecting contact of starting magnetic powder, which is formed of an intermetallic compound containing a rare-earth metal and an iron-group metal as principal components thereof, with a phosphorus compound containing at least one active proton having a pKa of 4 or smaller and exposure of the starting magnetic powder to an oxygen-containing atmosphere in an arbitrary order or simultaneously. Production of a plastic magnet with the magnetic powder of this invention allows to avoid danger and deterioration in magnetic characteristics of the resulting product due to oxidation of the magnetic powder even if exposed to elevated temperatures during its production or use.

C. in the presence of a catalyst containing manganese oxide, silicon oxide and one or more additives selected from group (A) consisting of germanium oxide, tin oxide and lead oxide, or a catalyst containing manganese oxide, silicon oxide, one or more additives selected from the aforesaid group (A), and one or more additives selected from group (B) consisting of alkali metal oxides and alkaline earth metal oxides.

The catalyst used in this invention exhibits not only excellent catalytic activity in the selective ortho-alkylation of phenols, continuous stability of the activity, good shapeability and good mechanical strength but also effective utilization of alcohols.
