  • Patent number: 7296823
Abstract: An igniter assembly includes an igniter, a substantially cylindrical collar for holding the igniter, and resin for joining the igniter to the collar. The collar has a cylindrical main body, a collar portion provided inward at the inner circumferential surface of the main body, and a cylindrical surrounding wall portion which extends from one end of the main body in the axial direction of the main body. A groove is formed in a radial surface of the collar portion at the side of the surrounding wall portion. The resin is filled between the igniter and the inner circumferential surface and the radial surface of the internal hole of the collar portion and the inside of the surrounding wall portion so as to fill in the groove. The collar is easily manufactured, and the igniter assembly prevents a gap from being generated due to shrinkage of resin.

  • Publication number: 20040250542
Abstract: A gas generator includes an initiator having a cup filled with a reactive agent, a header for closing the cup, and electrode pins. A resin mold is formed to surround the header and the base of the electrode pins. The part of the mold remote from the header forms a plug-in section of elliptical cross section. A substantially ring-shaped holder has an initiator-holding hole of elliptical cross section on its inner periphery. The plug-in section is inserted in the holding hole to be held therein. The ratio S1/S2 between the opening area S1 of the holding hole and the cross-sectional area S2 of the header is 0.5 or less. The gas generator is capable of reliably preventing a header from coming off during the operation of the gas generator.

  • Publication number: 20040141279
Abstract: An initiator and gas generator using the initiator. An initiator includes a conductive header, a reactant disposed on one side of the header, a cover member for covering the reactant, an electrode pin extending through the header to protrude from the other side of the header, and insulated from the header, a heating member provided between the one side of the header and the electrode pin so as to generate heat by the application of electricity, a cylindrical terminal protruding from the other side of the header coaxially with the electrode pin, and a connector-retaining portion provided at a leading end of the cylindrical terminal. The electrode pin and the cylindrical terminal are coaxial, the initiator can be mounted in an initiator housing in whatever direction it points, and the efficiency in mounting the initiator in the initiator housing is high. The size of the connector is also reduced.
