    Abstract: A sensor unit includes a light-emitting unit including a light-emitting element configured to emit light, a light-receiving unit including a light-receiving element configured to receive the light emitted from the light-emitting element, a flag configured to pass through a space between the light-emitting unit and the light-receiving unit, and a board, wherein a cutout or a hole is formed in the board, wherein the light-emitting unit and the light-receiving unit are mounted on the mounting surface of the board so that the light-emitting element and the light-receiving element face each other, and the light emitted from the light-emitting element travels straight along the mounting surface of the board over the cutout or the hole, and wherein the flag moves in a direction intersecting the mounting surface of the board and enters the cutout or the hole, thereby blocking the light traveling from the light-emitting element to the light-receiving element.

The value of a direct current component of the electric current applied to the laser light-emitting element in a first period is greater than an oscillation threshold for the laser light-emitting element, and the value of the direct current component of the electric current applied to the laser light-emitting element in a second period, following the first period, is less than the value of the direct current component of the electric current in the first period. An alkali metal atom is irradiated with the laser light, the laser light generated in the first period and the laser light generated in the second period entering the alkali metal atom repeatedly a plurality of times to generate a Ramsey resonance.
