Abstract: An improvement to a protective item capable of supporting a load bearing appendage, said item comprising a space having an opening, said space being configured to snugly receive the appendage, said improvement comprising a fluid pathway communicating between the exterior of the item and the inner end of the space, said improvement further comprising a flow control valve located in said fluid pathway enabling a uni-directional flow of air from the exterior to the space.
