  • Patent number: 8437020
Abstract: A system and method are provided for selectively emulating printer job processes. The method comprises: receiving a print job from a source; determining a match between received print job commands and default print job commands; mapping non-matching received print job commands to default print job commands; and, printing the print job using an modified set of received print job commands. The job may be printed using a combination of mapped default and received print job commands. The match between received print job commands and default print job commands may be determined by identifying a source print driver identity. The source print driver can be identified in response to parsing PJL commands received with the print job. Then, the method selects a table in response to determining the source print driver identity and accesses the selected table for default print job commands that have been cross-referenced to received print job commands.

  • Patent number: 8174712
Abstract: A system and method for generating passive metadata from user interface selections at an imaging device includes an imaging device and at least one destination having at least one controllable setting. The imaging device preferably includes a document imaging system for capturing an image file, a user interface system for accepting passive data user input pertaining to the image file, a data conversion system for converting the passive data into a metadata file, and a transmission system for transmitting the image file and an associated metadata file through a network to at least one destination. The passive data affects at least one controllable setting of the destination. Passive data may be, for example, routing information, user information, file formatting instructions, and/or billing information.

  • Patent number: 8156424
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to systems, methods and devices for imaging device dynamic document creation and organization. Some aspects relate to imaging device dynamic document creation and organization, wherein a document format, a dynamic field structure and document static content are selected on an imaging device user interface and combined to form a dynamic document on the imaging device. Some aspects of the present invention relate to imaging device dynamic document creation and organization, wherein dynamic document menu options are sent to an imaging device from a remote computing device.

  • Patent number: 8014006
Abstract: A system and method are provided for delivering document print instructions in a system of network-connected devices. The method comprises: accepting printer control data at a network-connected email address; generating the printer-controller form in response to the printer control data; calling the printer-controller form; populating printer-controller form parameters; attaching a document to the printer-controller form; emailing the printer-controller form, with attachment, to a network-connected printer; and, printing the attached document in response to the printer-controller form parameters. Printing the attachment in response to the printer-controller form parameters includes the printer: opening the emailed printer-controller form; parsing the printer-controller form parameters; and, printing in response to the parsed parameters.

  • Publication number: 20090144629
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided that use a controlling application for a multifunction peripheral (MFP) that is external to the MFP and need not be preinstalled on the network or pre-registered with the MFP. The controlling application may be on a mobile device that is communicatively coupled with the MFP or a system or network of the MFP via a wireless connection. The controlling application may be downloaded from the mobile device or a data source to a service hosting service communicatively coupled to the network. The controlling application is then operative from the user interface of the mobile device. This permits a user to control the MFP from the mobile device and receive by-products of actions taken by the MFP at the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20060044590
Abstract: A system and method are provided for network scan debt authorization. The method comprises: accepting a hardcopy document at an imaging device; predetermining the cost for scanning the document; debiting an account; authorizing a network scan; and, sending scanned image data to a destination. The process of predetermining the cost of scanning the document either measures the hardcopy document or measures a scanned image data version of the hardcopy document. If the hardcopy document is measured, then information is collected such as the number of sheets, the sheet sizes, and the sheet sides used (simplex/duplex). If the scanned image data is measured, then the document can be scanned and a count made of the number of image pages in the scanned image data. Alternately, or in addition to page-count, the amount of content in the scan image data can be measured.

  • Publication number: 20050198558
Abstract: A method and apparatus for proofing a scan job. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a plurality of pages have been scanned using a scanner adapted for printing. A proof sheet is printed by the scanner. The proof sheet contains a selected sub-set of the information contained within the scan job. A user inspects the proof sheet and elects, based on the inspection, whether to accept the scan job or not. Where the result of said step of electing is to accept the scan job, the scan job is thereafter sent, preferably by being forwarded to a network. Preferably the scan job is stored in a memory and, where the user elects not to accept the scan job, the stored scan job is modified according to user instruction prior to being sent.
