  • Publication number: 20090011030
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a powdered formulation comprising an analgesic, preferably fentanyl, for use in pulmonary inhalation administration for the rapid analgesic titration of pain, in particular breakthrough pain. Upon administration, the powdered formulation is able to provide a narrower titration range in patients suffering from pain, as well as effective analgesic amounts of fentanyl in a shorter time and at lower dose levels of administered fentanyl when compared to fentanyl administered by an oral transmucosal route.

  • Publication number: 20060025326
Abstract: A method for treating a particulate carrier for an inhalation powder improving the stability and flowing properties of the carrier. The carrier is abraded suspended in a liquid medium, in which the carrier is essentially insoluble, the liquid medium is evaporated and the carrier recovered.

  • Patent number: 6616945
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for preparing a physically stable and homogeneous powdered preparation containing particles of an active agent. The particles are suspended in a suspending agent in which the particles are insoluble, and the suspending agent is evaporated from the suspension. Physiologically acceptable additives such as a carrier may optionally be added to the suspension.

  • Patent number: 5476093
Abstract: A device for a more effective pulverization of particles and/or agglomerates of a powdered inhalation medicament, comprises a chamber suitable for receiving medicament which is substantially closed at one end thereof. The chamber is provided with at least one air inlet port and a powdered medicament outlet port. The chamber is rotationally symmetrical in shape and preferably its cross-section perpendicular to the center axis thereof is substantially circular in shape. The chamber also is without substantial flow obstacles. The inlet and outlet ports are spaced from each other in the direction of the center axis of chamber, with the inlet port being designed to direct the air inflow into the vortex chamber substantially parallel to the tangent of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5295479
Abstract: The invention relates to a device intended for measuring a dose of powdered medicament for inhalation, including a medicament container (1), through which extends a shaft (3) provided with at least one dosage recess (5). Container (1) is provided with at least one flap-like sweeper element (4), resting on shaft (3) in alignment with the dosage recess and having one of its ends rotatable around shaft (3), the other end of said flap dragging along the shaft surface, whereafter said shaft (3) is displaceable in this longitudinal direction relative to container (1) so as to bring dosage recess (5), along with a dose of the medicament carried therein, outside container (1). The invention relates also to the measuring of a dose of powdered medicament for inhalation by using the device described above.

  • Patent number: 5213266
Abstract: The invention relates to an aerosol nozzle, comprising a socket (1) provided with an abutment surface for a hollow stem (2) in an aerosol container and therebelow an expansion chamber (3) with a nozzle orifice (4) in its wall. The distance between the bottom edge of nozzle orifice (4) and the abutment surface of socket (1) in the longitudinal direction of the socket does not exceed the outer radius of the hollow tube and that the nozzle orifice is located within a wall area defined by the end edge of the hollow tube and the intersecting line between such a cone and the wall of expansion chamber (3), which cone contacts the inner edge of the hollow stem, has its apex inside the hollow stem on its center line, and has a cone angle of 40.degree..

  • Patent number: 4940051
Abstract: The invention relates to an inhalation device comprising a socket (1) intended for an aerosol container (3) of a medicament to be inhaled, the bottom of the socket being fitted with a baffle (6) which receives a valve stem (4) fixed to a container (3) and penetrates into an inhalation chamber (10) provided with a mouthpiece (11), and a nozzle (8) at the end of an inlet duct (7) terminating in the inhalation chamber (10). Mounted at a distance from the nozzle (8) of inlet duct (7), the nozzle being directed towards the end of inhalation chamber (10) remote from mouthpiece (11), is an opposing baffle plate (9) for pulverizing a spray of the medicament in inhalation chamber (10). The inhalation chamber (10) is provided with a one-way valve (5) for passing air into chamber (10).
