  • Patent number: 10058489
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to zinc oxide particles having a mean particle size (volume) distribution of about 400 nm to about 650 nm, where the zinc oxide particles are formed by gas phase plasma deposition without milling and remain discrete particles after formation. The present disclosure further relates to the use of the zinc oxide particles in a dispersion. The present disclosure further relates to the use of the zinc oxide particles in a sunscreen composition. The present disclosure further relates to a method of formulating the sunscreen composition.

Inventors: Tatiana Drovetskaya, Marc N. G. De Mul
  • Patent number: 9801801
Abstract: The present application describes personal care compositions, comprising a surfactant and agglomerated cellulose derivative, provided that the cellulose derivative has been agglomerated with a sufficient amount of carboxymethylcellulose as binder, and provided that the personal care composition is substantially free of glyoxal.

  • Patent number: 9592187
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to polymeric siloxane coated zinc oxide powders having a mean particle size number distribution (D50) ranging from about 300 nm to about 600 nm and their use in sunscreen compositions. The relatively high surface area (in relation to particles of <100 nm) avoids agglomeration resulting in ease of formulation and high dispersal of the particles which tends toward less light scatter and hence better transparency in formulations. Furthermore, the combination of the particular particle size number distribution (D50) of zinc oxide ranging as above with bis(resorcinyl)triazine UV absorbers shows unexpected increased UV-A absorbance (320 to 400 nm) in comparison to the zinc oxide and bis resorcinyl triazine UV absorbers on their own at the same concentration.

  • Publication number: 20140356304
Abstract: Antiperspirant and/or deodorant compositions commonly contain montan wax derivatives that may function as structurants preventing syneresis in cream antiperspirant and deodorant compositions, especially anhydrous cream formulations. Because montan wax derivatives are obtained via natural resources (lignite wax), the quality of the derivatives is often inconsistent and unreliable. There is therefore a need for a more reliable alternative. The present inventors have discovered that certain esterified oligomeric polyhydric alcohols, offer an effective, efficient and reliable alternative to montan wax derivatives as structuring agents.

  • Patent number: 7816310
Abstract: A personal care composition having at least one hydroxyalkylurea (HAU) optionally in combination with at least one other moisturizing agent. The at least one HAU, alone or together with the at least one moisturizing agent, provides not only the perception of moisturization, but also actual increased moisturization efficacy. When the two are used in combination in a personal care composition, they are provided in a synergistically moisturizing effective ratio to provide that perception of moisturization and increased moisturization efficacy. Such personal care compositions provide an enhanced smooth feel as well as enhanced flexibility, elasticity, suppleness and firmness without leaving a heavy or greasy feel.

  • Publication number: 20070253923
Abstract: A personal care composition comprising a cationically modified cellulose ether, wherein the cellulose ether comprises from 0.5 to 4 moles of an ether substituent per mole of anhydroglucose repeat unit and the cellulose ether is further substituted with a cationic substituent of the formula (I) wherein R1, R2 and R3 each independently are CH3 or C2H5, R4 is CH2—CHOH—CH2 or CH2CH2, AZ? is an anion, and z is 1, 2 or 3, and the cellulose ether comprises from 1.15 to 1.44 percent of cationic nitrogen, based on the total weight of the cellulose ether. The cationically modified cellulose ethers which comprise from 6,000 to 15,000 anhydroglucose repeat units are novel.
