  • Patent number: 6089196
Abstract: A cylinder head having a solenoid valve control device for operating a valve of an internal combustion engine includes a valve element which constitutes one of an intake valve and an exhaust valve of the engine. An armature is connected to the valve element to operate the valve element. A first solenoid is provided above the armature to generate an electromagnetic force to attract the armature so that the valve element is moved to a valve-closing position. A second solenoid is provided below the armature to generate an electromagnetic force to attract the armature so that the valve element is moved to a valve-opening position. An upper head is provided on a top of the cylinder head, the upper head having a through hole at a given location in the upper head, the through hole having an upper open end and a lower open end in the upper head.

  • Patent number: 6032925
Abstract: In a solenoid valve device, a valving element opens and closes a fluid passage by exerting an electromagnetic force between an armature and a core. The solenoid valve device includes a movable portion which includes the armature and the valving element. A fixed portion includes the core. An impact absorbing unit absorbs an impact of the movable portion on the fixed portion, the impact absorbing unit including a gel part which transforms a mechanical energy of the impact into a thermal energy.

  • Patent number: 5797361
Abstract: A variable valve timing mechanism of an internal combustion engine varies the rotational phase of a driven shaft with respect to a drive shaft to vary the timing of the valve. The mechanism includes a first rotary member for a rotation in synchronism with the drive shaft and a second rotary member for a rotation in synchronism with the driven shaft. The second rotary member has a vane. The movement of the vane rotates the second rotary member with respect to the first rotary member to change the rotational phase of the driven shaft with respect to the drive shaft. Hydraulic pressure is supplied to one of the first hydraulic chamber and the second hydraulic chamber to move the vane. A lock member locks the second rotary member to the first rotary member to fix the rotational phase of the driven shaft with respect to the drive shaft. The lock member is held in a locked position when the engine is not running.

  • Patent number: 5738056
Abstract: A variable valve timing mechanism of an internal combustion engine varies the valve timing by varying the rotation phase of the camshaft with respect to a reference rotation phase of the drive shaft of the engine. The mechanism has a first rotation member and a second rotation member. The first rotation member rotates in fixed synchronism with the drive shaft and has at least one recess therein. The second rotation member is located within the first rotation member and rotates integrally with the camshaft. The second rotation member has a vane within the recess. The vane is movable between two walls of the recess and divides the recess into first and second pressure chambers. Hydraulic fluid pressure causes relative rotation of the second rotation member with respect to the first rotation member by applying pressure to the first and second pressure chambers to move the vane. The mechanism further has a lock device.

  • Patent number: 5724929
Abstract: A variable valve timing mechanism is provided at the distal end of a camshaft for changing a valve timing of an engine valve. A rotor is fixed to the distal end face of the camshaft, and the rotor has four vanes protruding radially outward. A housing is disposed to surround the rotor to be rotatable relative to the rotor and the camshaft, and the housing has recesses on the inner circumference. Each recess is divided by the vane into a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber. A first passage is defined in the camshaft, for supplying a hydraulic fluid pressure to the first pressure chamber so as to change the rotational phase of the second rotor with respect to the camshaft, and the first passage has an opening at the distal end face of the camshaft.

  • Patent number: 5293845
Abstract: A control mechanism for shifting the rotational phase transmitted from an engine, and for controlling the timing of the intake and exhaust valves. A first gear mechanism integrally rotates with respect to a timing pulley, and has a set of inner peripheral gear teeth. A second gear mechanism integrally rotates with respect to a camshaft, and has a set of outer peripheral gear teeth. The number of gear teeth of the first gear mechanism is greater than that of the second gear mechanism. This gear ratio generates a rotational phase shift of the timing pulley with respect to the camshaft, in order to vary the opening and closing timing of the intake and exhaust valves. A drive means drives the first gear mechanism in order to vary the phase shift and to control the opening and closing timing of the intake and exhaust valves in accordance with the operating state of the engine.
