  • Publication number: 20050289625
Abstract: A television receiver is connected to a multi-directional antenna having multiple receiving directions for receiving a television signal by making one receiving direction active, and comprises a clock, a tuner, a memory for storing a receiving direction table having content containing channel numbers and a best receiving direction, and a microprocessor for controlling the receiver. Based on the time measured by the clock, the microprocessor renews the content of the table at a preset time, and outputs, to the antenna, a control signal to command a receiving direction for receiving one channel based on the renewed content of the table. The receiver can properly adapt to the variations in time of the receiving conditions of terrestrial broadcasts based on the renewed content of the table, and can automatically renew the content of the table in a time zone when a user does not view a television program.

  • Publication number: 20050289608
Abstract: A television receiver is connected to a multi-directional antenna, and stores, in a memory, a receiving direction table containing: channel numbers; best receiving directions of the multi-directional antenna for receiving the respective channels; and register channel information indicating whether the channels are registered as selectable or non-selectable. The receiving direction table is used for selecting each channel. Based on the operation of a user interface by a user (S42), the register channel information of the receiving direction table can be changed (S44, S45), so that the user can optionally set selectable channels. Thus, the user can preliminarily delete channels in bad receiving conditions from candidates of selectable channels.

The receiving direction table is used for selecting each channel. Based on the operation of a user interface by a user (S42), the register channel information of the receiving direction table can be changed (S44, S46), so that the user can optionally set selectable channels. Best receiving directions of channels registered in the receiving direction table as non-selectable are deleted from the receiving direction table (S45), so that the amount of information stored in the memory can be reduced, thereby saving capacity of the memory.

  • Patent number: 6956586
Abstract: An OSD image memory stores the OSD image of the reference color attribute. A color setting portion stores change set data for the brightness, transparency and saturation of the OSD image set by the user. An STB changes the color of the OSD image stored in the OSD image memory, based on the change set data for the brightness, transparency and saturation of the OSD image stored in the color setting portion, produces a composite video with the OSD image of changed color superposed on the video of a program, and outputs it from an output portion. Accordingly, the user can change the brightness, transparency and saturation of the OSD image according to one's preference.

  • Publication number: 20050149978
Abstract: A digital/analog tuner device comprising a still image capture device stores, as the captured image, a video image of a video signal with VBI (Vertical Blanking Interval) portions of the video signal being removed, when storing a captured image, and also stores aspect ratio information of the captured image. For displaying on a television receiver the captured image with the VBI portions being removed, blank portions in accordance with the aspect ratio information are added to the captured image for output. This makes it possible to prevent the generation of e.g. noises due to the VBI portions contained in video signals, and prevent the deformation of captured images due to the loss of the aspect ratio information in capturing the images.

  • Publication number: 20040100584
Abstract: A video output device adds a blank on both left and right sides or both upper and lower sides of an input video to produce a video having the same aspect ratio as that of the display screen of the display device, when an aspect ratio of the input video and an aspect ratio of a display device for displaying the video are different. At this time, the brightness of the blank to be added to the input video is adjusted in accordance with the brightness near the boundary between the input video and the blank to suppress a difference in brightness near the boundary.

  • Publication number: 20040045023
Abstract: A name of a television program whose electronic program information is absent is not displayed on an EPG screen when it is displayed. At this time, a user operates a broadcast receiver to prepare a temporary program for selecting the television program whose electronic program information is absent, on the EPG screen. The temporary program prepared is displayed in a program column where its program name is not displayed on the EPG screen, and the television program whose electronic program information is absent can be selected, like a television program whose name is displayed. The user selects the temporary program on the EPG screen, and performs a program reservation operation, whereby the viewer reserves a television program of a channel, which is associated with the temporary program being displayed and to be broadcast at a broadcast time.

  • Publication number: 20030233657
Abstract: An information including all program names from a recording start time to a recording end time of a broadcast signal, the recording start time and the recording end time is extracted from an electronic program guide information in a broadcast signal, based on a recording information associated with the broadcast signal recorded in a recording section. An OSD image generating section generates an image of the information for all the programs extracted and outputs the image to a monitor unit 4.

  • Publication number: 20030233666
Abstract: Broadcast signals carrying video and audio data are transmitted after encoding and compression process at a broadcast station and then stored temporarily in a hard disk recorder/player in a broadcast recording apparatus. The broadcast signal includes a row of video and audio packets having no empty spaces for synchronization with the actual program playback speed. The playback of a program is controlled with a timing data which is carried in each of the video and audio packets. Accordingly, the broadcast signals of the program transmitted at a speed faster than the actual program playback speed are temporarily stored and when desired, can be played back at any time.

  • Publication number: 20030154482
Abstract: A keyword or condition for selecting a program selection is stored in a memory in advance. When receiving a command for displaying a program select screen from a user, a broadcast receiver checks if program information acquired from a broadcast signal contains information that matches the keyword or condition. If a program, which contains information that matches the keyword or condition, is present, the program is indicated in colors, which are different from color assigned to other programs. When the program is selected by operating a cursor, information on the program is presented in the form of highlight displays. When rating information is contained in the program information of the selected program, a warning sound is generated.
