  • Patent number: 6976892
Abstract: A water-cooled vertical engine is provided with an exhaust guide cooling water jacket and an exhaust manifold cooling water jacket formed in an engine compartment exhaust passage, a cylinder block cooling water jacket formed in a cylinder block, and a cylinder head cooling water jacket formed in a cylinder head. A first cooling path for supplying cooling water from a cooling water pump to the cylinder block cooling water jacket via the exhaust guide cooling water jacket and the exhaust manifold cooling water jacket is substantially independent from a second cooling path for supplying cooling water from the cooling water pump to the cylinder head cooling water jacket. Thermostats are provided in the cylinder block cooling water jacket and the cylinder head cooling water jacket, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6913500
Abstract: An outboard motor is provided with an engine compartment exhaust passage that is formed by joining via a joining part an exhaust manifold connected to a cylinder head and an exhaust guide connected to an exhaust passage of a mount case. By bending the portion of the exhaust manifold that is lower than the lowest combustion chamber so as to be farther away from the cylinder head than other portions of the exhaust manifold, the space in which the exhaust manifold is arranged can be minimized, and the joining part can be prevented from interfering with the cylinder head while minimizing any influence on the exhaust efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6890228
Abstract: An outboard motor equipped with a water-cooled engine includes an exhaust manifold cooling water jacket for cooling an exhaust manifold for discharging to the outside exhaust gas from a combustion chamber, the exhaust manifold cooling water jacket being supplied with cooling water from a cooling water pump. A water outlet provided in the highest part of the exhaust manifold cooling water jacket is made to communicate with a water check outlet for confirming the circulation of cooling water due to operation of the cooling water pump. Thus, it is possible to reliably discharge air residing within the exhaust manifold cooling water jacket through the water check outlet. Since the water check outlet is used as an opening for discharging air, it is unnecessary to provide a special air outlet.

  • Patent number: 6851876
Abstract: A printing system, a printing method and a recording medium are capable of conducting printing efficiently. Regarding the first printing means for printing images per one print in the first size and discharging these images, and the second printing means for printing images per multiple copies in the first size and discharging these images, the number of prints to be allocated to the first and second printing means is determined so that printing is finished in a minimum amount of time corresponding to the total number of prints of the first size to be printed. And, based on the determination result, the first and the second printing means are controlled.

  • Patent number: 6659221
Abstract: A box-shaped intake silencer for an engine is obtained by joining together an upper half and a lower half. The intake silencer includes a connecting duct for supplying air to the engine and an intake duct for bringing in outside air. The intake silencer brings in a blow-by gas generated by the engine and returns fresh air purified by a filter to the engine. The filter is inserted into a retaining part made up of the upper and lower halve and held at the retaining pat by joining the upper and lower halves together.

  • Patent number: 6647962
Abstract: An outboard motor includes an internal combustion engine provided with a pair of intake valves. The opening and closing operation of one of the intake valves can be paused. The internal combustion engine comprises a vertical crankshaft, a cylinder head provided with an intake port having a pair of intake openings for one combustion chamber, and a fuel injection valve for injecting the fuel into the intake port. The intake port has an upper branch section and a lower branch section extended under the upper branch section. A valve train includes a valve-operation mode changing mechanism. The valve-operation mode changing mechanism pauses the opening and closing operation of the first intake valve and operates the second intake valve for opening and closing the lower intake opening of the lower branch section while the internal combustion engine is operating at engine speeds in a low-speed range.

  • Patent number: 6527604
Abstract: A compact and lightweight outboard engine (1) mounted to a boat stern by a mounting device having a tilt shaft comprises: an engine (2) including a flywheel (56) positioned at a lower end portion of a vertically extending crankshaft, and an oil pan positioned below the flywheel (56). An upper wall of a flywheel chamber (59) accommodating the flywheel 56 is made up of a bottom wall of a crank chamber made of a crankcase (30), etc., and a bottom wall (30a) of the crankcase (30) forming a front portion of the engine body (3) has a return oil path 71 formed forward of an inner circumferential wall surface (60e) of a circumferential wall (60) of the flywheel chamber (59) and having inflow openings (71a, 71b) through which lubricant oil flows from the crank chamber. Such outboard engine prevents output loss by preventing or minimizing lubricant oil staying in the crank chamber while the engine is driven in a tilt-up condition.
