  • Patent number: 9848283
Abstract: A system in which a discovering wireless device formulates a first discovery zone. In response to discovering a discoverable wireless device within the zone, the discovering wireless device establish a wireless communication channel with the discoverable wireless device using a powered wireless protocol, and communicates security data with the discoverable wireless device using the wireless communication channel. The discovering wireless device also formulates a second discovery zone that is larger than the first discovery zone, and uses the security data to pair with a target device within the second discovery zone. Thus, pairing is significantly simplified from a user perspective.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 1, 2015
Date of Patent: December 19, 2017
    Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLC
Inventors: Andrew W. Lovitt, Jason R. Farmer, Ted E. Dinklocker, Craig S. Brenner, Darko Kirovski
  • Publication number: 20170046238
Abstract: Device specific interoperability is provided automatically utilizing remote service and/or cloud computing. Functionality of devices like mobile phones is tested to ensure that the device is properly configured to work with infotainment systems by using the phone to connect with the cloud services.

  • Publication number: 20120109994
Abstract: A data-retrieval method for use on a portable electronic device. The method comprises receiving a query string at a user interface of the device and displaying one or more index strings on the user interface such that the relative prominence of each index string displayed increases with increasing resemblance of that index string to the query string. The method further comprises displaying an index string with greater prominence when a fixed-length substring of the query string occurs anywhere in the index string, regardless of position. In this manner, the relevance of prominently displayed index strings increases as more characters are appended to the query string, even if the query string contains errors.

  • Patent number: 7770069
Abstract: User input defines transmission filter rules to be met when sending an error report to a support provider. User input also defines collection filter rules to be met when including failure data within an error report. Error reports corresponding to crash failures at clients are filtered with the transmission filter rules to determine which of the error reports to send to the support provider, and each error report to be sent to the support provider is further filtered to remove any failure data that fails to satisfy the collection filter rules. Each error report that satisfies the transmission filter rules, along with the failure data satisfying the collection filter rules, is sent to the support provider for analysis. Standard and or custom failure responses corresponding to the failures at the clients may be retrieved and sent to the clients in accordance with the collection filter rules.
